The flip down visor is not too hard to clean, and it pops right off in seconds so you can clean the inside as well. But really bugs don't get up under there at all, just on the front like the regular visor. _________________ Steve

The two helmets arrived today. They fit well (at least in our living room), look like they are made well.
Like the chin strap rachet. The helmets are BIG outside- I guess to accomodate the flip up chin bar. There is much more space in front of Cathy's chin (small size helmet) than mine (x-large).
Hope to transport the bike South soon for a ride. Will then get an idea about how the Nolans work.

Given the snow that'sup there, some people will do anything for a ride! _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

I have been riding with Nolan 102 couple of season and I think it's great quality helmet. I had BMW system helmets 1, 3 and 4, but then I thought it's enough. BMW helmets are made by Shuberth, but Shuberth don't fit to my head.
Nolan Pinlock visor is really working great in bad weather like on our camping weekend http://koti.phnet.fi/moysa-mc/Pystymetta%202006/index.html
It's sometimes hard weather here in Finland.
Greetings and Merry Christmas from the Land Of Santa Claus.

My wife and I have had our Nolans since I bought my '96 RS in June and we love them. the flip up sunvisor is very secure, meaning, I haven't noticed it getting caught by the wind at all.
I am very interested to hear from anyone who actually has the N-Com. I'm looking at investing in the com for spring as we intend to do alot more riding together after it warms up. I'm concerned about hearing over wind noise. When I ride by myself I wear earplugs out of habit, just the cheap yellow ones. I'm wondering if I'll need to forgo those with her on board. Any thoughts |

Well, we took the plunge and invested in N-com intercom for our new Nolan helmets- the wired version. The wireless would have been $400 more.
First of all, the instructions for installing the headsets and the intercom controller STINK. The instruction books are thick mostly because they are in about 50 different languages. The English section leaves a lot to be desired, and I learned more by slowly pulling my helmet apart and seeing what could fit where. Done.
Was able to take a 45 minute ride, two up, late yesterday afternoon. So far, so good. We got up to a max of 60mph and could hear over the wind noise (K1100RS) easily. Once we have a few more miles, I will post a more detailed "review".
Briefly I like how compact the whole setup is but I now have 3 plugs hanging out of my helmet and Cathy has two (although 1 of hers can be permanently stowed up above her helmet neck roll). It works well for duplex talking. More later- gonna' go riding now...

I have just bought 2 Scala Rider Q2's, one of which is fitted in my Schuberth S1. My son's current lid is a Tamakachi (SP) and we tried it out the other day fitting a Scala Rider Q2 to his and also using the new Zumo 550. I could hear my son at 80mph+ but he couldn't hear me at anything above 35mph. I have just ordered a new Schuberth S1 for him to. I really rate these helmets but you need to be careful of buffeting from the screen. They are quieter in full and untouched airflow and being 6'3" I'm just OK above the standard screen.
Schuberth have just introduced a new version - the S1 Pro but all it seems to me to have over the standard S1 is a Pinlock visor. The cost differential between the old and new helmets is about 150 pounds whereas the difference between visors is 40 pounds. The new Pinlock visor fits both anyway. _________________ 1980 CB900FA

Another post about what we have experienced and learned so far about intercoms and use on the K1100RS.
The Nolan 102 helmets have been working out great. After having ridden with Bell full face helmets for years, using the Nolan is busy- flip down the chinbar, flip down the clear shield then the tinted half visor/shield. But that will become habit.
The N-Com rider/passenger intercom (wired version) works great. Even at 60-65mph with the stock K-RS fairing, we can converse easily. The boom microphone is right by the corner of my mouth since there is very little extra space between me and the chinbar- but it doesn't bother me and probably adds to the clarity. Downside is music sound quality- plugged my I-pod into the aux input and it sounds like a very cheap radio playing AM music. But for conversation it is working very well.
Final thoughts- and a question. Windshields. I bought a Laminar Lip to try to keep the bike looking good. MISTAKE. After making several changes to its position- little moves down from its highest possible mounting point- I think that it just about useless.
So for longer mixed highway/faster 2 lane rides the choices come down to Parabellum or Aeroflow. I am looking to get out of most of the wind blast but only make ONE $300 purchase. I have read what I can find using the "search" feature, but perhaps there might be additional input from past posters and/or some new user reviews. Thanks.

Well, the Aeroflow windshield should be here on Monday.
Let you know how it works. _________________ John & Cathy
