I surprise sport bike riders all the time on my Harley. I have no problem hanging with them in the twisties most of the time. Then again, I surprise them on my K11LT, too by hanging with them ALL of the time, if not pulling away from em..
Harley's are a totally different type of ride. Kind of like driving a '57 Chevy. It's a tank, but it's still a lot of fun to drive. |

Not in the least.
I was surprising them all day yesterday in the Santa Cruz mountains yesterday as well. It doesn't do that great on the really bumpy roads, but I didn't have much problems keeping up with all but the really fast guys with a death wish on at least semi smooth roads.
I've been riding for 27 years. I've only had a cruiser for a year and it's my first one. I didn't replace my beloved K11, though, which is waiting for me to get it's service interval taken care of.
Many Harley riders get one and park it in the garage most of the year. They spend more time polishing the chrome than they do learning how to ride. As one rider on an ST1300 yesterday commented, "You don't ride like most Harley riders!" As we were pulling away from the stop, he waved me ahead of him.
Most riders lack the experience. Most of us here probably have quite a bit of experience. Otherwise, why would you even consider a K11?
I can definitely move my K11 at a noticably greater pace than the Harley, especially in those larger tight turns where the better lean angle makes a difference. The better suspension helps greatly on the really bad roads, too. Only the former racers or guys that put in tons of track days are generally faster than me on the K11. Except when they punch it in the straights. But I make up the losses on the curves... And I never move my butt in the seat. No hanging off, etc... |

the harley i had was a 2004 sportster 883,and it was the worst thing i did was buying in the first place
it was no good two up due to rubbish suspenion, the rear engine rubber
mount collapsed causing me to lose control, the electrics did'nt like british winters, the uk dealers dont seem to care about customer care
an example is,the breathers on it spewd lots of oil out when i saw the dealer i got it from they just gave me a load of bs,as an engineer any engine that blows lots of oil out of the breathers must have ring/bore problems

Sorry to hear that, pete. My 2007 Road King is an entirely different model. I've put 25000 miles on it in a year, ridden it over some of the roughest roads known to man, as well as off road and through 10" deep, 60' wide washouts across the road in Death Valley. It's been nothing but a trusty, reliable steed.
Anyways, I really don't want to get into a Harleys suck/no they don't debate. I'm on this board because I own a k11, which is my primary ride.
I get laughed at by the locals for riding my K11, as they think it's an ancient, old man's bike because it's not an R1 or whatever is the crotch rocket de jeur of the week.
The only time they get much distance on me is when the road opens up. I have no desire to do triple digits. I have enough tickets already. |
