Looking for a new set.

Can anyone confirm if these definately fit my 93 K1100LT before I order them?

Anyone have experience with WP or recommend any different front springs for the LT?

Grid,

The part number you have for the WP Springs is correct, if you can order them, they are the best. I could not find a place that sold them anywhere, I went as far as going to KTM, since they use WP to try to see if they had the same numbered springs in any of their bikes but they didn't.

The RaceTechs are a good second choice. The heaviest springs they suggest for our bikes is the .95k FRSP S293895, they are rated for a 170lb rider. For your added weight and riding 2 up, I would suggest the .95's with 15weight oil and the max preload that the instructions suggest when you assemble them. If you do a search on the site, you will find a problem that I came across, installing them. The springs inner diameter is slightly smaller then the stock springs. The lower part of the cartridge will have to be milled out a bit for them to seat nicely. Not really a big deal, if you were already planning on taking the fork legs off the bike. If you install the springs, be prepared to buy new upper and lower bushings, snap rings and seals. If you do all of that and put on a set of gaitors, you shouldn't have any problems with the forks, for a very long time Wink

I have put a ton of money in my bike over the years. By far, the best bang for the buck has been upgrading the forks. $109.00 for springs and around $160.00 for bushings, seals etc, has proved well worth the time and small investment of $$$$

Thing is, I just got the forks rebuilt like 5k miles ago.

Like completely torn apart, cleaned and put together.

Still have the stock springs though.

I am looking for a spring set that does not require that much labor, just kind of "drop in and go".

Thoughts?

The .90k RaceTech's can be dropped in according to RaceTech. The stock Marzocchi springs were rated at .46k, so even the .90k are a big improvement of what you have now. Go with 15w fork oil and cut the spacers for max preload, that RaceTech suggests. The result will still be a nice improvement.

BTW, Ted's instructions are top notch. Note that his instructions suggest 2 helpers, it's a bear of a job by yourself Idea

Grid,

If you can order the White Power springs in Canada, they do not need spacers cut and all of the washers that the RaceTech's need. So installation is easier to do with the WP springs esp, for the drop in method Idea As I mentioned earlier, I couldn't find them.

A key point is taking off the fork caps one at a time!!! Otherwise the forks will drop down and the bike will fall back, if on the center stand, or fall forward if on the side stand.

Put on c/stand - use small bottle jack & board under oil pan to keep weight off of front end before removing fork caps. Much eaiser than fighting springs.

i have a new set of works performance front springs for the 94k1100rs that are new and unused and even in the unopened box they were shipped in from the factory in conoga park california...

if you think they are the same as what you need... and if interested... i can get the part number for you for independent verification...

im sure something can be worked out... of course any arrangement will require you to wrap some fish heads in some new york times front pages and send them 5 day minimum shipping to my boss..

In '05' I changed out the stock springs on my 96LT with work performance springs #FK3410. According to the application chart I have this works with the LT/RS with cartridges and ABS. If you have a Showa shock then it is a different set of springs. They cost me $120 shipped. These are dual rate springs and they come with 3 sets of precut load spacers and preload spacers. The springs outside diameter is larger than the stock so you have to leave off the sleeve that goes over the stock spring. These were pretty much plug and play and handling is much better than the stock.

I don't think any of the K1100 models have Showa forks. The ETK only shows one set of forks for LTs and RSs. But the earlier Ks had different forks based on year.

The very early 93's did have Showa. The forks have the same legs so they look the same, a friend of mine here in Cleveland has them on his RS. I am pretty sure the tube diameter was a fraction of a millimeter smaller in Showa's as well.

You're right - and it does show it in the ETK - not sure how I missed it before. It shows a used from 1/93 to a used up to 1/93 so there can't be many out there. Must have been leftovers from the K100RS4V and K1 production runs.

I think the diameters are the same as there's only one fork tree set for the K1, K100RS4V and K1100RS bikes.

I just swapped in some K100RS4V forks on my K1100RS and they fit in the trees perfectly.

So again, giving that I have a history of buying the wrong part for my K, I would like some confirmation from the more experienced folks here before I actually purchase springs.

I am leaning towards the Race Techs.

Given that info, are these the ones I need to order for a 93 K1100LT?

Grid,

Those are the correct RaceTechs, however, the White Power ones are a little easier to install. The White Power are longer springs that do not need a spacer cut. The RaceTech's you will have to cut the spacers equally and use the washers. Its not that big of a deal, but they would be a little more awkward to assemble and get the 2 moon or dog clips on them, I would suspect, especailly for the "drop in method." The White Power use to have as good of a reputation as Ohlins as far as quality.

I ll have to re check, but I am almost certain I cut the spacers to 5.9 inches. 5.9 will give you about 80% of the max preload that RaceTech suggests, so I would cut them to six inches even to get around 90% preload.
