Hey guys, long time no read! javascript:emoticon('Smile')

Last year I hit 8900 miles. Most miles since 1984 when I got married!

Best trip was 3300 miles in 7 days from Indpls to Salt Lake City and back. Did 2-400+, 1-700 and 2-800 milers.

IT WAS FUN!

Just 2 quick questions for improved comfort:

1) what brand bar backs work, and did you have to reroute / change cables or brake lines? I only see a set for $89 at AS Cycle

2) I want a taller and wider windshield. My last bike had a Daytona fairing; nice and big and quiet. What did you get? All I see is Parabellum and CC Baileys.

I did the following to make the K ride softer:

A) I used new K491 Elite II tires and was happy with them.
B) Replaced the front fork springs with Works Performance Ki5 FK3410 which has two springs (one is dual rate) and used the shortest spacer to get the softest settings. Used Light Spectro Fork oil
C) Had Works Peformance rebuild the rear Works shock.
D) Best Bun saver? None other than the Russell Daylong Dual Saddle.

Thanks!

Martin

Heya!

Welcome.......back, I guess. Surprised

Those are some heavy miles, I am assuming you have an RS because you are asking for barbacks.

Post some pics of your ride!

Nope.....just a 1996 K1100 LT.

I want the barbacks so that I can ride with more comfort. I like to ride with more of a bend in my elbows; that way I can ride with one arm while I stretch the other one.

I stand corrected. Laughing

I do believe that barbacks require some rewiring.

Flying Duck did a walkthrough on this forum form his bike, not sure if it was his LT or RS, but they should be similar.

Good luck.

Barbacks on an LT is kinda a tough deal. Look at your dash and ignition. I investigated that a few years ago and decided to get used to the stock set up and I have. A better mod is Duck's Kruise Kontrol so you can move around a little on the slabs. Cool

I did a K100RS without any new cables or whatnot. I think there's more slack on an LT so I don't think the cables, wiring or brake lines would be an issue.

If I'd kept the barbacks on that bike (they only lasted a day since I like to get in and lean over the bike on turns), I think the best looking solution would be to use a dashpad from a two valve K and rewire the ignition to a 2 valve igntion switch. That would be as dorky as putting the key in in front of a moved back K1100 dash.
