|
|
I got fedup with my better half asking me to adjust the volume of the BMW Radio all the time, so I decided to find a solution and this is what I came up with.
I cut the plastic handle off a large paint brush, purchased a two position self centering rocker switch, some cable and a DIN plug and Socket and made up a remote that my pillion can use to adjusts the volume herself.
Basically I made up a very short extension lead (about 150mm long) with a DIN plug on one end and a DIN socket on the other end. The longer cable going to the rocker switch was wired in parrarel into the DIN plug to the wires that control the volume up and down and also the common wire. The rocker switch was fitted into the end of the hollow paint brush handle with the help of my trusty Dremel, I then filled it with some Black Silicone sealant.
Now both of us are happy. When not in use it rolls up under the seat and when my pillion is on board, I unroll it and poke it out from under the seat and it sits on top of the right pannier for her to use.

Because my bike is a K11RS my radio is in the Tail Piece above the Tail Light and I had already made up an extension lead for the handlebar remote and these two join together under the seat, so I place this Pillion remote between those two and the cable to the pillion remote doesn't have to be very long. To make a remote for an LT setup the cable to the Pillion Remote would have to be longer to reach from the front fairing bucket (where the radio is) to under the seat. That would be the only difference. _________________ Gary

Nice job.
While riding I listen to the sermons and teachings of my lord and master, the Reverend Sun Myung Moon. It brings me inner peace. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I usually listen to vicious rock that makes me thrash around.
And with 80w speakers, everyone else can listen too.
Nice job on the remote, very clean looking! _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Off topic: What speakers are you using, OTG?
I just bought a set of CDT 4" speakers for the front of my LT and am hoping I don't blow them in a month like I have all of my previous speakers. (I like to blast rock too. )
The CDTs are supposed to one of the best speakers in my price range (under$100) and have one of the lowest frequency responses for a 4" speaker at 75Hz. I'm worried about the mounting depth but if they don't work out in the bike, I'll put them in a car.

Drake
Sony Xplod xs-W4021 4" 120W 2-way speakers.
Not much bass, but pretty crisp unless at full volume.
I actually had to drill a few holes and mount the speakers using some flush-mounted nuts and bolts...the existing posts are wimpy.
I don't think you will have a problem with the depth...the Sonys are pretty deep too.
If you love music as much as I do, consider getting a satellite setup. They are pretty cheap and clean looking, and the sound is incredible.
Pay no mind to the crooked windshield...drives me crazy I need to get in there when it gets a bit warmer.

I'm very happy with my Pioneer MP3 CD player. It even has a bass cutoff at 80HZ too which helps make the chances of blowing speakers a bit lower.
Satellite, schmatelite - I can hundreds of tunes per CD. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I also have an MP3 player that I can clip on my belt or tank bag. But I prefer not to have to mess with earbuds and such on the LT.
I use the MP3 player with earbuds on the RS. It's great little unit. I paid $20 for it on ebay, it takes CF cards (I have a 4GB in it now) and, best of all, I can use all of the controls on the MP3 player even with winter gloves on. I buy Costco AAs for it and get something like 12 hours per pair of AAs. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
