Took me a while to confirm it, because I tend to be a bike hypochondriac.
My bike is definitely, noticeably slipping in 3rd gear only. The other gears are tight. 30 mph in 3rd gear, get on the gas, RPMs go up, motor revs, bike does not correlate.
Here's the rub....it does not happen consistently, usually only within the first 30 mins or so of a ride.
I can ride with it, but it is very troubling, to say the least. I spend a ton of time in 3rd because it has such a huge range.
I just had the clutch replaced 18k ago, could it be the clutch? Or is it a transmission problem? (I pray to the babyjesus that it isn't the tranny)
Is it a possible clutch cable adjustment? Meaning the clutch cable might be too tight, thus pulling in the clutch just enough not to engage it in just that gear? (Its a stretch I know)
This bike is like a fickle woman sometimes. Can't I have a year of peaceful riding without the drama?

No - you can't...
There is a thread somewhere here on K11 about adjusting the clutch - not just at the handlebar, but also down by the linkage/rod thingy. I'll let you do the search...
Since it doesn't slip all the time, I'd venture to say it probably needs adjusted - you have put 18,000 miles on it since it was replaced.
You keep a spare clutch cable with you, right?

Working on it. The only "must have" item I don't carry.
The existing clutch cable is new though, <10k old.

I'm far from an expert, but if it only slips in one gear...
That pretty much sounds like a tranny problem to me.
If it was the clutch, it should slip in all gears.

'Cuz if you had a 15 year old UJM, much less HD, you woudn't have ANY problems, right?  Not to mention that we can still get parts,
I'd never own one of these (or three) if I couldn't do the maintenance myself though.

My statement was meant as a light hearted jest.
Machanical things require maintenance, from a door knob to the Space Shuttle.
Motorcycles fall somewhere between those two and no one brand is more or less maintenance heavy. IMHO.

I hear ya, but can't I go a year without some major, 800$+ work to do on it?
I mean, just brake pads, tires and oil?
Is that too much to ask?

It's the clutch - the slip is noted first in the higher gears - that torque thing again.
Hope you can get lucky and adjust it away.
My best w/a/g is oil on clutch plate causing slippage.

If it's oil causing it then there will be oil dripping from the weep hole. When you check the weep hole make sure you can tell the difference between a leak and the road tar that builds up underneath the bike.

No drips.
Just had the main seal work done at the same time as the clutch/splines, some 17k miles ago.
