Mark - I think your tires are probably way under inflated. The pressures shown in the manual are for the tires that were made when the manual was printed. Tire technology changes, but the info in the owner's manual doesn't.

Changes in technology have brought us better tires than we could get 10 - 15 years ago. You can probably run them at or near sidewall max psi, or with a heavy load, just a little over. The sidewall max psi has a huge safety factor built in.

As far as fork springs go - I just got a set from Jim Lindemann at LE Engineering in Campbell, California (less than 7 minutes from S San Jose- http://www.le-suspension.com/ - he's supposed to be one of the best in the suspension business. When I talked with him, I was all set to order WP (White Power - not Works Performance), but he informed me that although they're good, they are progressive wound - not linear. Jim said that linear springs would be better than progressive for the LT. I have a set of "Tours and Twisties" ready to install next week.

Don will probably chime in here - he has a friend at Works - and I think you'll get a deal if you mention Don Sproule - but I forget whom you have to ask for at Works.

And you tires will wear faster. The spec on the Mac 50s is 41 psi max. I've always run them at 38 front, 40 rear and gotten great mileage form them.

True. To get back on topic...

More things I like about my K:

- It's real easy to spot in the lot on that 25 bike ride because it's the only one.

- That it has a cassette player. Because if it had a CD, it probably wouldn't have a line in jack, so I couldn't run audio from the zumo. Sometimes, older technology is better!

- it always starts right up. Except when some squid is shocked I'm riding something so old and I say, "it's great, runs like a top."

My friend at Works Performance is Tom Edison (seriously). Mention my name for the 'good guy' price. I get nothing for sending him business.
I haven't compared Works to anything other than stock. I just know that I like their product.

That's my loved things about my KLT SE 1994.
1- insuperable cost/benefit - you cant find a better bike in this price range!
2- super-elastic (a Itaipu) engine - can go from 20 to 120 mph in 5° gear.
3- build quality - feels like will last forever...more tham me!

And the 3 least loved:
1- that damned front fork seals.
2- knees scaring lowed fairing (i'm a bit tall). I ride using knees protectors, rigids.
3- should have a overdrive gear ( a 6°).

Guilherme.

First, I laughed out loud here at work reading the following...

Flying Duck wrote:
My favorite things:
1) My knees never get cold
2) Spline lubes

DaveVoorhis wrote:
Only three? Shocked Okay, I'll try to limit it to the top selections:
3. Heated grips, tank, seat, side panels... Ideal for cold weather riding. Very Happy
1. Mirrors provide an excellent view of my bar ends.

Ok, What I like.
1. It's paid for.
2. It's rough around the edges and I don't worry about getting it dirty.
3. It suits my personallity.
4. It unique among most other bikes on the road, and strangers who follow my posts know her by name.
5. I'm not afraid to wrench her, she's not delicate, or fragile and can put up with some abuse. (Cause God knows I'm hard on equipment Embarassed )

What I LOVE about my bike.
What she makes me feel like when I ride her. Whatever that is, no other bike has ever touched that part of my soul.

What I don't care for.
1. I cannot lift her off the ground, so dropping her is a real fear of mine.
2. I wish the saddle was narrower so that my short legs could reach the ground better. (see #1)
3. It really, REALLY needs a 6th gear!!!! (But I don't Shocked )

I have healed burst fractures of T6 and T7, with kephosis, yet my back still causes me pain. Certain bending angles are not toleratable with no weight added. (a bad lift can result in further bulging of dics)

I also have a poorly healed, partial non-union fractured right clavicle.

Oh and a comlpete ACL tear and partial MCL tear of my right knee.
(a bad lift can blow out the knee completly)

So no, I make no attempt to lift the bike.
