|

First let me say that the information that I have seen here has been invaluable to me as a new K owner (1995 K1100rs). If only there was a similar resource for wives the divorce rate would plummet.
My problem is that the red lever on my kill switch broke yesterday. I have no idea how it happened. I turned the bike off and went into a store and when I came out there was a broken kill switch lever (and some teenagers on skateboards nearby). I have looked on the parts schematics and found almost everything except the kill switch assembly.
So, does anyone know where I can find one and second can I just pop the green button off and then put the new lever on?
I know I can live without it but I have grown used to it and after reading the post about the guy whose throttle stuck while he was on the highway.......... |

Welcome Mainer,
Yes, these boyz is full of good info, & other things too...
Knowing BMW's mind set I would be astounded if you could
just replace the kill button, but others may know & will
chime in. My suggestion is if you end up having to buy the
entire cluster, is to get the European model's switches which
come with the ability to shut off your headlight. You never
know when the stealth mode will come in handy. _________________ Kent

I have used Max BMW twice for parts and will do it again when the need arises. Their website has diagrams and part numbers. Or just give them a call.

Good luck and welcome.

Rebuilding the killswitch is pretty straightforward and simple.
Remember to clean the contacts when you get in there, do it over a large area like your kitchen table because there are a few small springs that you will hate if you lose.

You can fix the kill/start assembly without taking the switch apart. There's a little C clip that holds them on - no need to take the back off of the switch.
If you can wait a few days, I can probably round up a spare kill lever for you from a bad switch assembly. For free!
FYI: The only buttons that BMW sells individually are the turn signal buttons. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

| That is incredibly generous of you, and I know that because I spent the better part of the day going through the list of recyclers that I got from a BMW parts place in NH that was nice enough to supply me with. I was wasn't surprised that the entire switch was so hard to find and so expensive when you do. Very frustrating when all you want is a 1 inch piece of red plastic. |

On this very forum some time ago "take it apart in a large plastic bag. Will reduce the number of ping, f*ckit's"
