Hello to all I finally got around to pulling the bellhousing last night and took the starter clutch out , before all this the problem was the starter would spin but not engage and even after numerous attempts it was still spinning but not catching after a push start it still would not catch even after warming up .I had a Z750 which did this so I said starter sprag clutch is worn ? and sure enough it needed new springs etc. ,however the K1 unit was perfect when I took it out no gunge , no wear , no marks on the shaft where the rocking pieces engage , springs are all fine. So now after pulling the whole lot apart  its fine ! is their something else that can cause the not catching fault  ???

Low battery volts or finicky starter relay. Bad electrical connection, also.  Sorry.

About the only other failure would be the gear spinning on the the starter armature but that is NOT a common failure. Since you have it apart, I would just replace the sprag parts. You sure don't want to go back in there again.
