Just got this email from one of our newer members who was interested in one of my seats:
| Quote: | Guess I won't be needing it.
Shortly after I sent this I went out to lunch. Afterwards, on my way to
the local BMW dealer to say high, pick up a part I ordered for my old
bike, AND show off my new BEAUTIFUL 1994 Red K1100RS with only 11,900
miles on it I was POUNDED by a cager from behind.
Light turned green, me about 10th in line - right lane, no parking
lane, we just get going, everyone stops quickly, me too. Checking left
in mirror, too late. My license plate is indented two feet up into the
hood. Bike is launched out from under me into the back of a pick up
truck in front of me. PU truck driven by off duty police officer. Female
driver said several times she was sorry and it's her fault. We all took
off from the light and for some reason while accelerating she looked
down? Go figure.
Front of bike is mashed & pushed back some 2" or more. Very ugly.
I'm OK, left side & back very sore. Good gear, no helmet damage.
After claims are settled, I'll be searching for another low mileage
K1100RS. That bike was soooooooooooooooooo fast & smooth it was scary
good.
Best regards, ride safe, check the mirror often, have that out planned
ALWAYS!!
30 years riding, half dozen of these missed me when I used evasive
action. Finally got pinched!
Bummed big time.

Poor bike never even had a chance at life. Glad Jim is more or less OK though.

Sucks, but 2 things that are good:
1. He's got a great parts bike or can make a small fortune parting out the bike.
2, and most importantly, he's ok. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Sorry to hear about this. No matter how careful you are and how aware you are of your surroundings the one that can get you is when your guard is momentarily down. Unfortunately one cannot always be 100% aware of ones surroundings at all times.
Good thing is that he is able to walk away from the accident with only minor aches and pains. Machinery can always be replaced bodies are much harder.
Keep on riding.

This is scary.
The only positive thing is that he seems to be OK for now. I do hope he gets himself checked out thoroughly as internal injuries are not always obvious.
I dont understand how he claims that "helmet is OK". I always assumed that all gear would be replaced in a crash like this, particularly the helmet!! I'd think the insurance would pick up the tab for it.

I've been down three times. One serious at speed, one medium, one easy. None of those involved my helmet hitting the ground. (ALthough I was glad I had a fullface on.) Just because you go down doesn't mean that your helmet is going to make contact or sustain damage. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
