Well even though the template job Gwen did for me was awesome, apparently the tape I purchased for 30$ absolutely sucks as far as sticking power goes. Like it does not stick at all.
I tried glue but that just looks like ass and does not work either.
Anyone recommend a sticky backed reflective tape that I can use for my side cases that I see everyone sporting?
I want something that actually STICKS.
PS what I used was 3M tape, so DON"T recommend that!
/rant off
(If you pay 30$ for a product, it should work as intended on any surface) _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

3M produce the best adhesives known to man, so either you have a bad batch, or the plastic surface is contaminated.
Did you thoroughly degrease before applying the tape - up to 15 years of wax polish and silicone residue to shift.
The strongest cleaning agents available in the UK are commercial TFR (traffic film remover). They are highly caustic, but solvent free.
US folks seem to rave about Simple Green - cannot get it here, but appears to be a similar product.
The problem you have is that the adhesive face is now contaminated. It is likely that it will not adhere well, even on a clean surface.
Warm the tape to about 30'C before application, and warm the pannier body with a hot air gun (or Mrs OTGs hairdryer)

It's not a stamp - you weren't supposed to lick the back before you applied it.
I'd actually rough em up a bit with emory paper or something. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

if you want white .. then hit up fleabay and look for 3m SOLAS ( safety of life at sea) this stuff stick to any that is clean and oil free. i placed strips of this stuff on a back pack made of woven nylon after 3 years it is still stuck on me.
this is a military grade product that 3m is selling to the public.
the key to getting best results is to clean the surace with an oil remover.
( do not use carb or brake cleaner will strip the paint. )
then apply with lots of elbow grease..
this stuff here http://www.tkoorange.com/ is the best i have ever used it is the only thing that will remove molly grease from your clothes and not leave a trace what make it even better is it wash away with water and is derived form the orange. _________________ fix the problem not the blame ; fix what is messed up ; NO one is to blame. |

I use this http://www.identi-tape.com/solas.html
3M SOLAS Marine Safety Reflective Tape
I hate to suggest this dear, but have you considered what kind of surface prep you did?
I suggest washing with soap and water, dry, then wipe the surface down with "Plastic Prep" / "plastic cleaner" you can get at auto paint shops. It's alcohol/MEK base is awsome. Allow to dry. Be sure you wash you hands in the same to remove natural oils from your skin as well.

Admittedly my surface prep was terrible.
I may try the suggestions with regards to prep and try again. I have enough tape. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Yeah, the backside of the bags tends to collect some road grime that wouldn't allow the adhesive to ... well... adhere. _________________ M N B

Bought the 3M Solas grade reflective tape from Aerostich (yeah, I probably could have found it cheaper elsewhere, IF/WHEN I found it) but this is now on the bike. Prep the surface right (alcohol) and this stuff STICKS. You can also warm the surface up with bright sunshine or a hairdryer.
I plan on adding a vertical stripe to each side box. _________________ John & Cathy
