I've been riding my bike around with a slippy clutch. Today it went crunch and no longer engages! I had to get recovered, and it's now at the workshop, it was booked in anyway. Looks like the thrust bearing completely gave way. Shocked

The main reason I'm posting is to let people know that if your clutch starts slipping, get it fixed, as it may leave you completely immobile. Careful of that one guys and girls.

Where are you getting the clutch changed and let us know the cost. I had my clutch changed last July [2007] as I couldn't be bothered to do it myself and had the valve clearances and throttle syncing done at the same time costing me £360 all in. He did only change the friction plate and bearing though as that was all that needed as I booked it in as soon as it started to slip in top gear under load.

Same price, entire new clutch and seals.. Bemer Bikes in Redbridge.

Might add up to a bit more now that he has to replace whatever went pop though.. I'll post when I know more.

Is that price from a BMW dealer? Just interested because my clutch is juddering badly when I pull away from standstill. I assume it will need replacing soonest!.

Cheers Chris.

Ok, job done, £400 for every clutch component plus the bearing, and new seals (might as well..). Bloody good value if you ask me - done promptly and with the offer of a courtesy bike. The previous clutch had to be swept into a corner! Very little remained, and I had indeed buggered it up by riding it worn for too long, so Chrisman, i'd recommend getting yours fixed asap.

The garage was Bemer Bikes at Unit 13, 400 Roding Lane South, Woodford Green, IG8 8EY - 0208 5509200. Russ knows his stuff, and he remembered you when I said hello for you Tim Smile
