On the way to work, all is well, about a 1/2 mile away, bike steers funny,
goes OK. Pull into parking lot, now I know why, flat rear tire.
Man the bike is hard to put on the c-stand with that flat. Tire is warm, bead intact, rim AOK.

Of course, the flat kit is way old.

I want to shoot it with Fix a Flat to get home, then have the tire changed out as it's a " Battle Axe " did I spell that wrong? And I have a pilot road on the front, like to put the match on the back, I like em'.

I know the all purpose shop I'm going to take the rim too as they mount & balance for free if you bring it in, tire price is fair, not bargain basement, but a good price. I'lltip the guy to clean up the goo when chnaging.

So, will I be screwing anything up using the fix a flat & topping off the air to get home?

It's "Battlax" - a rather unconventional spelling.

Call your tire changing shop before you use FaF. It will irritate them if you give them a tire full of goo.

Also, if the hole is too large FaF will not work. Don't ask me how I know.

The " Stop & Go " kit worked AOK.

Found the hole in the middle of the tire.

Threaded a rubber worm on the tool, lubed it up good with rubber cement, inserted leaving 1/4" out as instructed, twist & pull back, inflated with 4 CO2 cartridges. That only made it 15 PSI, but limped down to motor pool & fully inflated the tire. Will take all side streets home, then pull & take in to the supplier I use for tires. If they say it's cool with a GOOD patch from the inside, I may use it. Otherwise, will put on a match to the front tire.
Leaning towards just doing that anyways. My biking year has not been too lucky. Hope it's turning for the better as the flat happened in a convenient spot and at a speed that did not risk life & limb.

I suspect they won't be too hot on the patch idea. I got a shop to do an internal patch for me in Watson Lake, Yukon but that's only because I couldn't find a tire anywhere in town the right size.

Tire worked fine for the next 600+ miles(even at sustained high sppeds) but I did replace it in Fairbanks for peace of mind.

Yeah, I hear ya & agree. It's a temp thing for teh plug or patch.

I'm just going to replace it, peace of mind is hard to find. When you get a chance to purchase a slice, you need to do the right thing.

I'm a feeling better already!

Well quite an adventure... but i will pontifacate on my tire woes this year and we still have 4 month to go before the nasty stuff.
i got a new z4 to replace the front road pilot ; the usual torn flesh on the knuckles from the abs ring replacing that tire...
then i sucked up one nail on the rear tire that only had 3500 miles on it and almost ran it flat and hard... purchased the stop and go kit from the net.. while stewing for that to arrive; i went to wally mart and purchase for 10 dollars a mini air pump... you must mod this pump so you can power it off the battery. this sucker has paid for it self 5 time over because 2 weeks after i got the kit to plug the tire i sucked up another nail.
so while in a private driveway i plugged the tire again using the vacant field to do target pratice for my F-Bomb load.. average rate of fire about 30 per second... only to get 10 miles down the road and have both plugs "pull out" note: stop and go kit ; good product for temperoary repairs only.. no glue to hold it in the tire all on the hottest day of the year. repair and plug at local gas station ; got home and promptly cried my brains out...
the next day at work i dismounted the tire only to discover black power that looked like cocaine.. at that point i was willing to step in a shredder with the tire around my neck... back to the internet for a rear ...or to take it in the rear..

at the start of this week all was well untill i hopped the k11 off the center stand and kerr flop the front was flat.....remember that is 30 f-bombs pre second rate of fire. got out the minipump then put the bike up untill later....

the story is now over but with a happy ending.. the z4 had a small leak at rim that was fixed by reseating the tire bead. a new rear is still in good shape...

please note .. if a shop repairs a radial have them install a patchplug. if done correctly a patchplug will last the life of the tire.. do not let a shop sway you .. if they only say patch it ; run away and find a shop that will..

As for the on road repair kit you should have the following items
1 stop and go tire kit... much better than the oem kit.
2 one Wally-mart mini pump it will fit in the tail with carefule packing in that conpartment .
3 purchase and install the ride-on tire sealant / balance liquid..
www.ride-on.com (http://www.ride-on.com/) you can carry and install if you get a flat on the road...

this PSA has be brought to you by In the rear road service..
