I hate to have to say it, but I think I am. The japanese make some great bikes but they're just so...soulless. I've tried the kool aid from the land of the rising sun but it just don't cut it like a lot of the Euro machines. _________________ '96 K1100 LT se

They're like oriental food. Tastes good, but 2 hours later, you're hungry. The main problem with BMW is even their sport bikes are big, heavy Panzer tanks. They need to lighten and lean them up to make them nimble. Get that wheelbase a lot closer to 56". Get the weight down to 400lbs or less.
Sure, for a touring bike, heavier is to be expected. But it'd be nice if my LT was 550 curb weight instead of 700... I'd get a lot more out of those 100 ponies. _________________ M N B

Jap bikes never really did it for me and I could never see my self riding a Harley. I test rode a K75S in the late 80s and then dreamed for years of buying one. Once I did, I was hooked on K bikes.
I've toyed with the idea of getting a K1200RS but they just have too much plastic for my tastes and the K1200LT, though I'm sure it's an awesome bike, looks too wingish.
The K1200GT looks pretty cool so maybe I'll make the move to one of those someday in the distant future.... _________________ 93 LT (x2)

The rice rocket crowd laughs at my big, aging K bike and then once the ride's over, I get the nods because 90% of them were BEHIND me the whole day... But they forget all about it by the time they post the next day.
Mental block. Must forget that some old fart on a bagger dusted them... Select All. Delete. _________________ M N B

If someday I'll get more space in my garage, must be a Guzzi or a Bonneville there.
With my KLT and my Springer, of course!

It's a bike that has SOUL (yeah, OK, and a bit of a very frequent maintenance schedule.....) _________________ John & Cathy

No "Eurosnob" here. (Just a snob in general.)
I've also owned Hondas. To me, comparing a K1100RS to a ST1100 is like comparing a Thoroughbred to a Quarter Horse. The K is sturdy and faster, but a bit finicky if you don't watch your maintenance (and even if you do.) The ST is less nimble and speedy, but respectably strong and reliable even when neglected. I've spent a fair amount more time and $ maintaining my K than I ever did the ST's.
I've ridden both K1200GTs and ST1300s. New or used, the K is consistently a 30% bump in price with comparable vintage bikes. I like 'em both, and the K is definitely more spirited, but I'm not sure it's 30% more bike. Maybe 10 or 15%.
Just my two cents. _________________ tlp

I'm not sure about EuroSnob but yes a snob about being a Beemer rider.
I think (maybe a misperception) that 90% of Beemer riders ride their bikes long distances and keep their BMWs longer than other brands.
I also think that the general public also thinks this and I take pride in the fact I'm riding one. The average Joe (Plumber, if that is his real name, hahaha) knows that those who ride BMWs are more serious about motorcycling and travel. At stop lights I get the side glance of approval and 'wish I was doing that' look than that of disdain 'damn another biker'.
Heck ya I'm a snob on my BMW. My first (K100RS) I rode for 4 years, my second (K1100RS) I rode for 13 years and now I'm on my third (K1200GT).....I ride the bike I don't park it at a coffee hangout and look at it. _________________ Mike Gullery

I get those looks too.
I still have my first BMW, an '85 K100RS I bought in '94, and I still love it. It is my daily driver. But the '95 is so sweet.
I haven't come around on the newer ones yet. _________________ 1995 K1100RS
