Your motobrick, what is your riding style?
Because seriously the only time I even marginally take it easy on my bike is when the wife is on the back.
I literally beat the piss out of my bike every. time. I. go. out.
It is exceptionally difficult for me to go slow, but I do.
Any curves, long, copless straights get the hammer, talking 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears to 7k easy.
Was thinking tonight how much I have punished my bike and how well it runs, especially for a 16 year old machine.
Look at me, gushing like a schoolgirl. (with red cheeks and all, its 40 degrees here now)

OK, OK- to be serious for a minute (this may take some doing.....)
Last weekend was the first time that I really stretched the RS's legs. Hey, I'm an old fart, alright?
The Ducati group I rode with moved along pretty good. Didn't feel uncomfortable with the speed or I would have dropped off the pace.
But I did spend most of the time in 3rd and 4th with the revs pretty high in 3rd, especially. The group tended to accelerate pretty hard when the road was clear ahead. Those Ducs have some low rev grunt.
But at other times I am pretty law abiding (a.k.a.- within 5-10 of the posted limit). The speed isn't what floats my boat- just being out there enjoying the road and the scenery.

Mine is over 120MPH at least for a little while, almost every time I ride it.
To me, beating on it would be lugging the engine, or running full-speed over broken rail crossings.
It likes 4500 to 7500 really well! _________________ 1973 CB350F / 1977 R100/7 / 1991 DR650S / 1995 K1100RS

My sons 1985 K100RS has over 100k on it and it is not riden easy. When I got a new K1200Rs I asked the dealer about breaking it in easy and he said Just get on it and ride it hard. These bike seem to love the abuse. As long as the fluids are maintained I dont think it should be a problem. I know of many K bikes with 200k plus on them and still going strong. Only trouble I see would be Brakes and Clutches. Not cheap to do a clutch on a K bike. _________________ Ron

Hardly a day goes by that we don't see at least 85 and chicken strip burning on and off ramps.
But that's about as thrilling as it can get in the flatlands where I live. _________________ '93 K1100LT

Round the town I do take it easy but get on the motorways (freeway?) and dual carrageway (trunk road?) and i did give my RS a spanking, over 100 everyday and most days she would see 120 (on a safe race track honest officer)
Not sure how the LT will ride, got a 450 mile trip home in the early hours of monday (1AM start) so will get a good idea.
The Pan European would also see 100 everyday but not much more due it being unstable although i did get it to 120 today as it was the last time i would ride it

I don't drive crazy but my philosophy is if there is at least one car going faster than me then he will get caught first and so far it has worked. I'll do 85-90 without even thinking about it because the bike is so smooth it doesn't even feel like it is moving that fast. I'll pop it up to 100 get out of a group of cages that I am stuck in and then back off. I also like leaning so when I am on back roads I'll rev high and try to scrape the pegs. That's what makes riding fun

When I get the chance I ride my bikes hard but smoothly - I don't consider that beating them. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Having spent way too much time so far reading you guys, I've been thinking more about how I ride. I find myself sending the tach up into that over 4000 range to see how it feels up there. Mostly I tend to ride at consistent speeds and am wondering, what rpm makes most sense to cruise at?

8-9mph over the speed limit (except for small towns). K bike engines can run all day long(literally) at 6,500+. Don't worry about running them up above 4,000. The Motronic (engine computer) has a built in rev limiter at 8,500 rpm. You're good up to there.
In general, try to keep the revs above 2,500 or so. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I stick to ~10 over the speed limit, since the cops don't care at that point.
I've got little kids, a 5 month old and an almost 2 year old, so I ride pretty conservatively overall, but one of my favorite things in the world is a long, empty, curving onramp.
