sorry... couldnt find the info... and my search keeps going to debug the mode...
so...
can anyone tell me the general wattage consumption of the 94 k 1 1 r s motobrick running stock minus these motoboltons...
fogs...............70w x 2 = 140w
driving.......... 70w x 2 = 140w
run n lites..... 27w x 2 = 55w
jacket...........................100w
gloves............................20w
heated grips...................36w
total........................... 491w
so at 13v it would be 38a total plus the regular workings of the motobrick...
is this right...
also... if the 50a alternator is overloaded by boltons... will the battery just be go dead because it wasnt getting charged... or will the alternator melt down... or what...
thanks...

It'll just kill the battery. When I put 55W instead of 35W bulbs in my fog lights it killed the battery after about 4 hours of running errands around town. Then I had to upgrade the LT alternator from 32A to 50A. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

When up above 3k rpms or so, the regulator limits the voltage at about 14.1 or 14.2 volts. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I'm thinking your 93 has the 50 AMP alt. Mine does.
You can look right & and see on the side of the alternator. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

All of the RS bikes have the 50A alternator. They started producing the LT before the RS which I suspect has something to do with the 93 LTs only having 32A alternators while the RS had 50A. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Johnny,
I'm not sure about DVD this year. I've been going since 1994 but with all the Park restrictions they are putting on us (The IBMWR), I'm not sure what we'll do.

I'm a newcomer to the world of K-bikes (airhead guy) and have the same question JO asked regarding base electrical load of a K bike (94 K1100LT in my case). As I've added extra lights (currently have MM50's and some kind of big 6" Hellas), rider and passenger heated jackets, I curious when I start to get into electrical supply issues. I will be installing a digital voltmeter/ambient temp gizmo to watch things, but I'm still curious how much electrical headroom I have above the base bike operating load. Anybody know? Thanks ! _________________ Rainbows end down that highway where ocean breezes blow

I did some rough math given what overtaxed the old 32A alternator on my LT. I'm guessing you've got in the neighborhood of 350-400W to play with. (Maybe a little more on an RS since I didn't include the radio.) _________________ 93 LT (x2)

No.
First, my jacket sucks about the most juice of any on the market at 72 watts.
I think 36w for grips should be more like 25 and the same for gloves (mine are 24).
that makes for 355 watts. Amperage is determined by using 14volts (this was covered in a previous thread... I thought it was calc'd based on 12volts since it's 12 friggin volt circuitry... silly me)
So 25.35 Amps of a 50 amp alternator. Or 355 out of 700, leaving 345 for the bike.
You're close to the limit, but are you going to run the fog lights and driving lights simultaneously? I wouldn't recommend it and it'll save you 140 watts put you in the comfort zone for power. _________________ M N B

By the way Johnny, your math for Run-n-Lites is off. The 1157 low filaments only draw 4W of power. The blinker filaments draw 27W but since those are a temporoary load I'd ignore them - unless you plan to run around with your hazards on - and even then they are only on half of the time. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Sounds like you need new marbles. Only official BMW OEM marbles will work however - after you've polished them with the BMW special marble polishing tool of course. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
