Despite my dire predictions Obama won.
Maybe there is hope for this country yet.
Or maybe the men behind the curtain saw that it would be such a landslide that had little power to stem the tide and manipulate the votes as they did in 00 and 04.
America voted unanimously for change, and in record numbers. The voter turnout is an amazing thing into itself.
Lets hope Obama can live up to 5% of what he promised.
It's a start. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

...........TIME WILL TELL....................
If he is able to lead this crippled country out of the dumps we can follow and be better for it.
If he fails, the outcry will be powerful.
Either way we now have to sit and watch.
BTW, I do expect taxes to go up- SOMEBODY has to pay for Iraq- a war that Dubya waged on borrowed money. And a national debt that has been allowed to climb out of sight.
The credit card bill has to be paid sometime, no matter who spent the money. _________________ John & Cathy

I think one of the great things about this election will be the head explosions of racists nationwide. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

With you on that. Amazing how some people (racists, etc...) ever got their membership card to the human race. _________________ John & Cathy

Whether or not you're a fan of The Messiah, he's been elected. We're stuck with him.
So all I can do is hope that he's too busy to get much of stuff I really don't want him to do done and that he's able to get some of the stuff I agree with done (like closing Gitmo).
God help us if he yanks our boys out of Iraq before it's stable. Or we'll just have to go back in and it'll be MUCH MUCH worse. We made the mess, we have to clean it up.
I wish him the best of luck in bringing this nation out of some very difficult times and I sincerely hope he proves me wrong. Everyone needs Obama to succeed, just maybe not with some of those ridiculous plans he's got. But come on, you know that 80% of campaign promises are just pillow talk, baby? Right? Especially when it's someone who only talks about vacuuous stuff like dreams and hopes. _________________ M N B

What I find remarkable is the grace in which the candidates handled themselves in the wake of outcome. McCain showed class. Obama showed humility (contrary to allegations of egomania).
Let's hope the rest of us can also rise to the occasion. For the new president's supporters: let's emulate Obama's humility. He's not claiming a mandate. He's not spouting stuff like "I've earned political capital, and now I intend to spend it." He sees the difficult road ahead and knows he can not do it alone. It may not be enough to enlist the efforts of only his supporters. Let's receive those who viewed this new leader with skepticism with open minds (as long as they're not TOO nasty) and invite them to work alongside.
For our incoming president's detractors: please afford him the respect he is due - not because of his position, but because of his temperament. If you are not a fan of his, fine. If in the next years you find reason to legitimately and rationally criticize his efforts, by all means do. But please understand that negative comments without basis really don't help. Such outbursts may release frustration, but they don't reveal much to be admired.
We are facing difficult times. The number of folks facing unemployment is particularly frightening. For the first time in generations, we will be asked to make sacrifices beyond anything in recent memory. Sure, the jury is still out on how our newly-elected president will perform, but let's attempt to give him and his team the benefit of the doubt until they prove they don't deserve it. They may surprise you, and negative attacks given now will later appear foolish.
Peace. _________________ tlp

This is what really scares me:
Pres: Democrat
House: Democrat controlled
Senate: Democrat controlled
The damage that could be done with this HUGE imbalance of power could take decades to repair. And without adequate opposition to provide checks and balances, it could come swiftly, like a dam break.
I hope and pray that they use this majority and power not to further partisan bullshit, but to do what is truly best for the nation. _________________ M N B

You must know that if Republicans are unwilling to reach across the aisle, there's always the filibuster.
Come on. Keep it real.

The damage has been done. It's the REPAIRING that's about to begin. Please withhold the negativity until there is cause.
Come on. Keep it real.

As I said in the past, it's going to take decades to clean up the mess of these last 8 years.
Which is good for the haters.....any future problems will automatically be associated with Obama, and any future success will be attributed to luck.
With a 2 party system and the venom spewed on both sides, (even now, after the election is done!) it's a miracle anything gets done.
One things for sure, last night thousands of Secret Service personnel's buttholes puckered way up.
Which is understandable. People actually HATE him. And he hasn't even done anything yet!
Geez, at least it took Bush years and multiple screw ups, failures and outright corruption/lies to be hated.
All this guy has to do is be black it seems. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

One thing that I didn't understand was all of the crap about Islam.
First of all, not that it matters, but the guy doesn't attend a mosque.
But seriously, one of the best things we could have right now is a President who understand Muslims.
So we've got a President who knows what it's like to be poor and black, and with a more-than-passing understanding of the Muslim world. I see these as Good Things.
I'll be the first to admit that the next 4 years may suck horrifically, we don't know a whole lot about this guy, but I've still got some optimism about him.
OH, and the other thing that kills me....
Bush takes tax dollars that have already been paid and gives them out to everyone, and noone cares.
McCain actually proposed to have the government buy people's bad mortgages so that they could keep their homes.
But Obama suggests raising the tax rate on people make over $250k BACK to where it was during the Clinton years, and HE is the socialist?
What kind of logic is that?
I had a *lot* of respect for McCain until this campaign. Now I can't stand to even look at the guy. Maverick my ass. _________________ 1993 K1100RS

Boy, when friends discuss Politics and Religion....
I suspect I could have some fun guessing the ages of some of our friends.
Some of you worriers, just remember we can re-balance Congress in just 2 years. _________________ '93 K1100LT
