BMW are toting they have the flash new helmet (Series 5) that can have the WCS-1 Bluetooth unit integrated within.

For the life of me, I can't find them (The bluetooth unit, I mean) anywhere. Here in Oz they say BMW won't release them for reasons unknown to anyone.

Does anyone know what went wrong and what the latest sitrep is?

Does anyone know where they are available?

I understand they are super expensive, but if you can afford a Series 5......

The WCS-1 system is indeed gone.
Last week I got an new helmet V with the new bluetooth headset.

so far sound quality is very good, both for me and for the other side of the phone call.
the buttons are nice and easy to use and pairing it is easy too.
The main problem for me is that is you can't initiate a call from the helmet. On my bike, i have a autocom with a nokia carkit. Push the button, say the name, voila. The BMW system only allows you to decline and accept calls. For most people that should be no problem, for me it is.
the solution:
The BMW helmet is paired to a Garmin ZUMO, which then pairs to the mobile phone. This allows you to make calls, by using the zumo as a carkit. A nice feature of doing it this way is that you have caller ID on the zumo. Talk about lots and lots of money though..

For simply receiving calls, the helmet works great.

Charging is done via a little plug, on the bottom of the helmet. It is a mini usb so you can charge it via the supplied charger or via a computer..
I just visualized myself connecting the helmet to my PC.. what are you doing? just updating the crash protection and adjusting my pinlock, why?*

The colour? that's because it goes so well with the rest of my workgear:

regards, Daniël

* I just noticed Schuberths bluetooth system, this does connect to the pc for updating firmware and adapting parameters.. oh dear..

the set up look great .. to bad we can't get it here in the states.
BMW will not sell branded riders head gear in the USA is because of liabalites laws.
i think that suck . BMW has such a solid reputation for quality and durability.

shoot all lawyer first then collect the bullets and implant them into the politicans as to be a reminder they are next if they forget the will of the people.
