So I get home early from work today. It's 45 and sunny. Roads are a little sandy, wet in places but totally rideable. I have one more PT to see so I get the Beemer ready, warming it up and putting the bags on, etc. It's out of the garage running when I notice it on the garage floor.
A puddle.
Gear oil.
Coming from right above the cat. No small amount, too.
So I put the Beemer back, put my stuff in a backpack, and fired up the Honda with one kick.
Yup.

Kinda' nice to have a gas -N- go bike, huh? Unfortunately K1100LT/RS rides are not getting any younger. However, Rydor's 1200 is the next gen.

Some dudes get chit luck with their beemers, U is on one smitty streak.
Hope it's sumthin simple, and if it's from the repair just done they stand behind the work.

my heap leaks so much oil half the time im thinking im gonna wreck on my own oil...
i just keep it full and hope for the best...

You couldn't be possibly lucky enough to have the problem be as simple as the rubber boot(cup) at the clutch actuator arm either torn or loose.

Nope this was dead midline between the tranny and clutch.

If it dripped out of a leaky boot onto the cat and oozed forward and dripped off of the cat.
My RS has been playing Harley lately too with a very small drip. I'm doing a spline lube soon so no biggie except for dropping $30 for a rubber BMW boot.

That would have been my first thought, but..

How you could consider anyone lucky to have this be the cause is beyond me... 
On a K100, maybe...but on a K11 it's a PITA to fix. Stands off, exhaust off (with attendent possible stud seizures), probably a seized actuator rod...and all that messy oil...jeez...been there, done that.

If it was the boot leaking, it's still easier that pulling the tranny again and looking for a cracked case or input shaft seal.
Just a shame that it had to happen to him now.

Called my mechanic, he said it was most likely the output shaft seal or the shift seal.
In any case, he is going to personally come to my house on Mon with a truck, pick up the brick and fix it.
Free, of course.
Which is why I love my mechanic.
