What I'm really asking is whether a "low battery" fault condition actually disables the ABS brakes.
Real important, huh.

I believe that it would be disabled.
If the system thinks that the battery power is low, not sufficient enough to operate the modulating motor, then it would not try to operate.

Connect a wire from a good frame ground or battery - to pin #2 of the diagnostic connector.

Hi Rob,
I was being a plonker!
The lights are flashing in sync which they should do until I start up and ride above 5mph.
So, alarm disconnected and original problem solved I think.
Does anyone know what a 'normal' drain on a battery should be with everything switched off? I am getting about 2.5 mA. Does the clock draw that? |

I will have a look at mine if i get chance tomorrow to see what the drain on mine is and post the results.
Are you still suffering from a flat battery then?

Rob,
With the alarm connected my battery was getting low within a couple of weeks. Low enough to cause problems with the starter relay. Now the drain is about a third what it was (2.5mA compared to 7.5mA). I just don't know if this is the norm.
Not had this problem with any other bike but then they have all been non-alarmed.
I have invested in an Optimate but just need a bit of reassurance on this.

Any "smart" battery charger will work so you should be just fine with that.
I've got several Battery Tender Juniors and all have worked well with all types of batteries (non-AGM Odyssey, Westco, Yuasa, BMW....) and are still kicking. My oldest one is 5+ years old and have yet to have a problem. As long as you get a "smat" one fom a reputable company you should be fine.
