Friends,
Here is a pic of the 3000 gallon pond I built in my side yard
Here's a closer look
Even closer look at a couple of the fish
And more fish
These are Japanese Nishikigoi (a.k.a. "Koi"). Each was hand selected and flown in from Japan. I can post more if you guys care.

That's a beautiful setup there and I'll bet the fish weren't free!. If I did something like that here the racoon's would be saying "Sushi anyone?" _________________ Scott Hespelt, '94 K11LT

NICE BACKYARD!!!
Unfortunately (for me) you DO NOT want to see my backyard right now. About a foot of snow on the ground and the snowbanks are still about 4'-6' tall. It can all leave now. Even worse is the upcoming mud season.
But on Saturday we go to pick up the Ducati down in Laconia. Hope that it is warm enough for me to ride part of the trip back. Some portion of our return trip will have the new bike on the trailer...
Maybe I will revive this thread in a few weeks when I can get the whole fleet outside for some pictures.
Hey, riding season IS COMING.
Again, nice BY, Sonu.

Actually I have Racoon's come thru once in a while. They have yet to scratch a fish let alone catch one. The key design element in racoon proofing a pond is to have straight side walls & depth (over 5 feet in this case). When you have a stepped side wall with lots of plants you have a "water garden" as opposed to a "Koi pond". The steps let critters "wade in"
The overhead structure deters Blue Heron's which are another predator that can make a lot of expensive Sushi.
Here's some more fish

I love the pic's very nice setup
Florida is 56 to 80 degrees rt. now..
I can't ride untill I get my heating problem fixed. In less than 200 miles, I loose about 40cc of anti-freeze. My temp reaches close to the red on the guage. I have it narrowed down to the filler cap gasket. The gasket is oval shaped instead of round and, resivior is shady but soon all will be fixed. I believe that there is an air leak causing the antifreez not to return but go somewhere else. I will have it fixed very soon. I want to take advantage of the early good weather!!! _________________ In the words of the stones

Yea, knew this. My Dad built a fish pond in town and put his wife's goldfish from the school she retired from in there. They had gotten pretty good sized and there were about a dozen of them. They lasted one night. He called me up and asked what could of happened to them. I said "Coons". And he said "We live in town, we don't have any racoons".
Here's my backyard garden pond.

Here's my lake, a bit smaller, but loaded with fish. You name it, bass, catfish, sunfish, perch, bluegills, snapping turtles, regular turtles, tons of water birds, herons, egrets, osprey, ducks.
Its a storm water retention pond to prevent run off from going into the local waterways, one of about a dozen in our neighborhood. It's man made about 15 years ago. It's amazing how mother nature fills in the voids very quickly.
My viewing perch.

Wow! I'd like a view like that.....
So you catch the fish from your man-made lake, broil them in the hot tub, and eat them on the deck. Did I get this right Steve?
Wonder if its warm enough to swim in the summers....

The view is very nice and boating is great. The water, however, is not recommended for swimming.

I'm pretty much a catch and release guy, the idea of cleaning and gutting a fish isn't real appealing.
The waters a bit murky for swimming, and the snapping turtles are a bit scary. I snagged one once with my line and slowly pulled up a snapper with a shell about 2 ft. in diameter that scared the crap out of me.
I like your Koi pond, 5 ft. deep, that was a bit of digging eh? _________________ Steve

Not too bad. Half the pond is above ground level. Brings the fish closer to the eye and keeps me from stooping to appreciate them.
The real challenge was installing those 16' long redwood support beams 10' into the air.
