To Jim- TFBR the RAM decal is right reading horizontal to the ground. Well, slightly angeled but matches the up direction.

I try to keep the overall stuff clean, and when ever I need to take something apart for maintainence, I clean all the parts as part of that maintainence.
Changing the oil, clean up the front of the engine. Added those CATZ lights, had to get unde rthe tank to the wiring, so clean under all that.
It's all cumlative and done if I have time. I don't do that when i"m on the road as much.
It's also partially theraputic for me, or it means I need therapy, I'm not always certain.
I don't freak out if it get's dirty and I ride rain or shine. I was riding early this year as I'm all set up for it. Roads were full of all kinds of nasty, but heck, it washes off when I get the time.

Nice group over there you guys are.

Weather is getting ready to turn today to rain & cold. Will try and get out just to ride.
Shock is still perfect after 500 miles. Just amazing how planted the bike feels. Always feels like it's stuck to the ground.

So, how would one go about ordering one of these fine shocks?

If my soon to arrive used Ohlins doesn't work out on my '93 (it's for 94+), I'm going to sell it to Scott A (who called first dibs on it) and order one of these bad boys.

Just curious what the procedure would be, with them being overseas and this being kind of a custom item and all. Others might also be interested.

Remeber, you all can save a bundle if you get an orde of say 6 shocks and split the shipping. I just HAD to have mine.
PM Beechcomber and he'll forward on to his/our friend Adrian. They'll have a bunch of questions for you. Weight, how you ride, 2 up ? ect. Then they set up the shock and send it.
After I answered the questions I paid with a credit card. Took about ten days for the whole process until I had the shock.
The instructions are brief. The assembly AND installation are a snap.

Like I mentioned in an earlier post, I took the time to apply 2 coats of a quality automotive way to all the parts. Buffed and then assembled. Cause once you get it on and go riding, you won't want to stop.

I think they have only two colors for the spring, black & yellow. No biggie, the black looks good and is a high quality finish. The colors and retainers are anodized black too.

Pardon the stupid question but what differences would one see upgrading to this shock over the original one that came with the bike? I thought you just replaced the shocks when they wore out.

with the works shock... no such luck...

thats why im putting the stock shock back on and taking a run up out the 91...

Beau,

the stock shock is usually good for about 40,000 miles. It degrades over time, so it's difficult to notice that it isn't doing it's job. Suspension upgrades really improve the handling and ride quality.

I think the previous answers say it all. I would just add that this shock is a steal at the price.
A replacement stocker is a BMW part and probably not cheap, or we'd all just keep buying them.

I'm not blowing smoke, it's BEAUTIFULLY made!

I MAY be off base here, but I think the REALM shock is about half what a new one from the dealer would cost.

You can do your own compariosn shopping too, lots of used ones out there.

the coil over allow for just about endless adjustment because of the screw type ring at the bottom of the spring.

o no... its wonderful... i was referring to the stock shock... mes thinks any aftermarket shock is better than the stock shock...

kinda like aftermarket seats... shocks and seats gotta be custom to you...

For Hockshifter: Donate Plsma. Way easier than organs. I've made up to $300.00 in a month! Course you gotta be healthy & all. Remember too, if a bunch of you all get together and make a group buy, you save a ton on shipping. I just did not feel like waiting, so took a leap of faith and had one built & shipped. It was a 1/4 of the overall price for me to do that. Was my call and I new that going in. Really was not much of a leap though, as the team at REALM was up front and communicative through the entire process.

For Owstritch: +1 Cool

Seat, then the shock. On the 94 RS that was crashed out with only 14K on it, that rode pretty good on the stock shock.

For OTG : Windshields sure make the bike more comfortable for certain!

Hi Guys,

I've just come back from my first Summer ride of the year - Stratford on Avon.

Around 200 assorted bikes and a dozen or so Beemers thanx to my post on the UK club forum.

MANY complimentary remarks about the shock - looks and quality.

As to the "why" - like any upgrade, it's just that - an improvement on the standard item. Even the most cynical would have to agree to the improvement that it makes. And like most upgrades, the harder you make it work, the more obvious the improvement.

The shox are now in stock at RAM in 4 different "weight" settings that would cover all riding conditions / weights.

All you do is give the guys at RAM [ or me ] a headsup on the MAXIMUM all up rider / luggage weight and your riding style / preferrence and they will select or build a shock to that spec.

Payment as normal via Credit Card, and the shock is on it's way to you within 48 hrs. Unfortunately there's not much they can do about the carriage charges for one off orders - even so, I think the shock still compares well with those currently available in the USA?

There is a distinct possibility that there will be a US distributor in the not too distant furure, alternatively a bulk/combined order should see a saving.

I could have sold mine twice over this morning!

Standard spring is Black - Yellow, and Red available at small extra cost and delivery time.
