I've heard they actually score the tubes because they trap crap/sand inbetween the neoprene and fork slider and grind the shit out of it when the forks actuate. Get a set of Rancho fork boots or Traxxis dynamic fork guards. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

What he said - they also fade and look like crap in a few years....
Get the Rancho fork boots, the Traxxion Dynamics fork guards don't work with the LT fairing unless you bend them and mutilate them. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

They really don't look bad. I just taped them to the forks and took a heat gun to them. I like the looks better than the boots but that's just me. Now if I have to do the seals anytime soon I'll be right back to the Ranchos. _________________ Scott Hespelt, '94 K11LT

I've had them for a year or so and am pretty happy. I like being able to quickly take them off to inspect the fork seals periodically.
I've not seen any crud trapping issues. You'll need to trim them on an LT.
Looks is a matter of personal choice I suppose. I think it is a shame to completely hide the beautiful chrome polished forks.....

It is a shame to hide the forks - but as far as I'm concerned - it's even more of a shame to have to put the bike in the shop for fork seals when you're 3,000 miles from home - and you just had the fork seals changed before you left on the trip.
The gators are things of great beauty to me - they prevent fork seal damage and down time when I'm on the road. _________________ Jim

I've got them on my RS, they're fine and better than nothing. The neoprene doesn't touch the tubes, only the lowers. They're quick to remove and clean and have NEVER trapped any dirt or grime behind them.
For the price, go for it. The black looks best.

...and they still look good. No fork seal problems for a long time. I used a zap strap as extra insurance to hold them in place after one slipped. Thumbs up!

| you can check hippo hands also. they make a fork gaiters that are removable and do a good job of keeping the fork tubes protected. www.hippohands.com |

Thanks for the wide range of opinions. I might try them until I have the forks apart.
Blu, I hope that's one of those fake bullet holes! _________________ Jim
