Victoria, Texas (pop.55,000) is a town about 80 miles West of Houston. Local Hispanic leaders there, in opposition to pending Immigration Legislation, boycotted all Caucasian
owned businesses in the Victoria area this past weekend as
a demonstration of their economic impact on the
community. The boycott was declared a success by the
Hispanic community, noting that revenue in Caucasian owned
businesses was down by 19%. Business owners declared the boycott a success as
well, pointing out that shoplifting was reduced by 77%,
money orders sent out of the country were down by 97%, and
the cost of daily clean-up and trash collection was down
by 84%. Shoppers reported that they could actually
hear English being spoken throughout the community for the
first time in recent memory, and customers actually paid
for purchases with real money, not government debit cards. _________________ 1993 K1100LT/On going project

Hi, Roy,
Jim is entitled to his opinion. I gave 4 years of my life to Uncle Sam to ensure he has that right. I, however, like your post and, living in El Paso, see and hear about all the things in your post. I speak Spanish, having lived in Spain and Mexico and having worked mostly in Mexico for about 20 years, but it irks me HAVING to use Spanish in my country, the USA! So call me a racist; I'll happily accept the epithet.

Hi, Endoman,
I've been there! I lived in Pembroke Pines for a year while working in Hialeah and Honduras. Many of the people I supervised (in Hialeah) were from El Salvador, some from Nicaragua, and a couple from Mexico. I had to speak Spanish or I could not have communicated with them.

I chuckled at it, will continue to do so too. I also live it every time I visit relatives in FL. in the spring.
Everyone has an opinion on it, could go to mindless depths.
I have trouble with East Indian accents when they speak English but I find the cadence amusing for some reason.
But that's another thread........ _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Understood. My reference was to the original post and implications regarding shoplifting, etc. _________________ tlp
