Hey guys and gals, on the K11LT seat there is a 'pin' on the bottom of the seat that goes into the seat latch. It's got a flattened end with a rectangular opening in it that I suppose goes into the latching mechanism. It has one squared off bottom corner and one with the square corner trimmed off to a 45 degree. Does the angle go facing forward or back, or does it make any difference?
I have my seat being recovered and I removed this pin assembly but failed to take note of it's correct orientation.

Rod - the angle goes toward the rear. If you look down where the pin goes, you can see the keeper that slides is toward the rear of the bike. Yes, I think it does make a difference - the angled part pushes the keeper out of the way. _________________ Jim

I'd say it's more of an "it depends" issue. Take a look at how it lines up going into the seat lock hole. On my bikes it works better for the angled part to be facing forward.
You can also move the mounting bracket for the post around on the seat a little to improve alignment with the seat latch hole.
Sometimes when fiddling with it the seat may get stuck closed. DON'T pry the seat open and break stuff. With an 8mm box wrench and a Phillips screwdriver you can remove the lock from the frame without having to break anything. (DAMHIK)
More seat mounting advice: Sometimes aftermarket seats won't align perfectly with the tail cowl, tank, etc. Leave everything a wee bit loose (hinges, seat lock rod) and also loosen up the bar that the rear hinge slips into. With a little patience you can get things fine-tuned for the best fit. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

The sockeye run is still going in AK in early August so we'll also have fresh salmon flown down from AK to BBQ. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Rod - I just took a second look. Although the angle on the K is toward the rear, it will work either way (as Drake said). Come to think of it, I've had so many seats on and off the bike, I don't know which way it's supposed to face... _________________ Jim

I've played with it both ways myself too. I was trying to fine tune it so that it would latch without having to push the button in to latch it.
I was trying to do anything BUT put lubricant down in the lock mechanism.

You are quite right. Oily lubricant will work fine until the muck gets in there.
There are special lock lubes available. Ask your locksmith. _________________ Regards Tim,

In theory, silicone lubricants don't collect dirt(or as much dirt) - which I believe is what is recommended and whatI use on my windscreen rods. You do lube those annually, don't you?
IF you have to push in the latch to get it to close then chances are someone rode around with it unlatched and put a notch in the slanted part of catch arm. My LT was like that so I found a good latch, busted mine open and put a good latch arm in there. I suppose you could also file it down so it's smooth again too.
Taking seat locks apart: Just pry it open and then JB Weld it back together - that's what I do. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
