as soon as the snow melts, (yes,, we still have it in Upper Michigan), I due to take delivery on a 93 1100LT -- My first beemer -- a one owner ride with only 38k miles. In my research, I'm coming up a bit short on the ABSI systems; namely what faults are generated in wheel slip conditions and do they render the system inoperable? I understand that the system "synchs" the two wheels and when they get out, as in a lock up, the system kicks in. What happends when you head up a steep hill on a gravel road and the drive wheel advances faster than the front? Or if you were started out on a lawn and the rear drives skids a bit? Does the ABS come up with a fault? Can you clear it?
Thanx in advance to all. I hope this is the beginning of something beautiful. |

Welcome to k11 owners and congrats on your first purchase of a BMW. I have had a k75 for 14 years and have loved it. Got a 93 k1100LT last fall with 32000 miles on it and am looking forward to many miles on it. I have been a bit frustrated with my abs. Why it works sometimes and why it doesn't remains a mystery to me. I think I may need a new battery. Anyway, if you don't get it figured out ride it anyway. I am enjoying mine. _________________ 93 K1100LT

If the system "trips" out the abs lights will blink back and forth not together, should this happen the system needs to reset. Turn the bike off turn it back on, the lights should blink in unison and the system will reset. I've only faulted out the ABS once on a very violent spin/skid. It should happen very very rarely.
I can tell you both that abs I or II is very very sensitive to a weak or getting week battery, I've had it fault at start up when battery was weak, and I've had it fault out while riding on an old battery.
Hope this helps!!!! _________________ 1996 K1100 RS SE |

I think I only have one abs light on my 93KLT abs 1. Where is the second light? On the tach somewhere? _________________ 93 K1100LT

On a 93 the bulb monitor unit light (red triangle) doubles as your second ABS light.
Start the bike and hits both brakes before moving. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
