the last piece of business before heading out for hungry dungee 2009... the $39.95 oil change and wash...
so im sitting at the table of wisdom... thats what i called it anyway... you know the one... coffee and donuts and old geezers at the bmw shop on saturday mornings... these old geezers said they have been meeting for donuts and doing a lunch ride for 20+ years... crazy old geezers...
anyway... the service writer comes over and says to me something like mr owrstrich your moto is not road worthy... so i looks into his eyes and says yesser i know that... he says my tires are worn out and my brake rotors are too thin and my valve covers are leaking and my main engine seal is leaking and my transmission seal is leaking and my final drive seal is leaking and theres bungee cords and duct tape holding parts and pieces together... including the headlight... and... and... and... its unsafe to ride...
i says yesser i know that... he was perplexed... but he eventually asked if i would like an estimate... i says just an oil change and a wash please... perplexed...
after he reinforces his position and some friendly back n forth... he says he has to put on the receipt that the moto is unsafe and not road worthy... i nod in agreement... he leaves even more perplexed...
one of the old geezers asks me if i rode the moto to the shop... i says yesser... then they all laugh and simultaneously say... its road worthy...
heading out tuesday for hungry dungee 2009... taking the long way... riding out of visalia for the next 2 weekends... then onto tracy...

Long way, indeed. Three and a half months worth, apparently.
But I'm sharing some of the same concerns as the service writer - especially that leaking final drive seal. Mine started leaking, I rode it a few hunnerd clicks, topping it off as needed. Finally, it all went berzerk - the bearings decided they didn't like the constraints the race was imposing upon them. I'm thinking that if I had replaced the seal earlier, it may have been a simpler and cheaper fix.
Not sure if the tranny and engine seal leaks are imminent threats other than general messiness. Other opinions, Motogeezers?
Maybe you need Scott_Anderson to trailer the midwest motobrick out to Visalia and haul the bug-eye back to Iowa for some tlc. Or Klinker rides them out and back (providing the bug's final drive was made proper).

In 3-1/2 months they could ride back to the midwest, pickup the motobrick and ride to Hungry Mother and back to Hungry Dungee.
All the while the Bug is being repaired somewhere. _________________ Ride safe.
