So what is the exact distance from the under side of the "L" and the "Max" mark?
I guess I'll make my own. _________________ Steve

The width is just under a quarter inch.
Total length is 4 7/8"
The level line is about 5/16 up from the bottom.
(the line is about 4 1/2" under the top bend.)

Steve, if you want the metric, the max line is 115mm down from the inside lip that will set on the tranny housing.
You can then mark anything for that purpose. _________________ Ride safe.

A full quart is a little much (1000ml), full fill is 850ml.
But I'm kind of picky that way I guess. _________________ Ride safe.

Isn't the "C" spanner for the shock the gearbox dipstick? thats what i have used it for anyway, got the level line stamped in the handle end.

Here's the skinny on the C Spanner dipstick from our end.
The level mark is indeed 115mm down from the register.
It works on ALL K75's, ALL K100's and SOME K11's.
I have a '93 and it does NOT go all the way down, my pal has a '94 and it does - go figure!
I was told by several well informed sources that the trannies were all the same only the Paralever housing distinguishes. That is patently NOT true as there must be some internal differences that allow the spanner handle to go all the way in on some Paralever boxes and not others.
Here's a theory - the trannies from the original Para may have been beefed up in some way to take the extra strain of the Paralever layout.
The 75 / 100 models come with the mark on the OEM C Spanner supplied in the tool kit - that's what was originally used for the sample for the RAM spanner supplied with the shock. It works perfectly with 75 /100 and only some K11's.
The mark IS in the correct place [ lazer cut ] - but won't work on all K11 Trannies. I'll try to find out just what te internal differences may be. Any K11 tranny experts out there?
It's not practical to make the handle thin enough to pass down the obstruction in some boxes. although AC is going to try a one off to see if it's viable.
Hope that clarifies the "C Spanner" question

Take a look at the parts catalog. With the exception of 5th gear on K75s and the mount for the paralever on 4 valve Ks all of the transmission parts are the same.
I've got a 93 and a 94 and the K75/K100 shock wrench works fine for checking the gear oil level on both of them. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

TJ, I wouldn't spend too much energy trying to make a spanner to work as a dipstick too. None of us bought the shock for that reason and I've never had any kind of dipstick at all.
It was a nice plan, but I wouldn't compromise the spanner thichness just for that. _________________ Steve

Steve,
it's no longer a matter of working or not - it's now a "why"!
Today I went for a ride out and spotted 2 K11's parked up. I asked the obvious question - one was a '93 and the other a '96. Spanner worked in both and also my K100 [ which I used today ]. The owners were also mystified at the apparant differences in some boxes.
Flying Duck, thanx for your input.
I think I must just accept that there is a difference and the spanner is what it is - but the engineer in me now demands an answer!
As you say, doesn't detract from the shock, and it was only a last minute add on anyway.
Off to the annual Classic Bike show at Bingley Hall in Stafford tomorrow to have a nostalgia wallow,

Just a thought, would it have anything to do with what gear it is in? Or nuetral? I haven't played around with it in different gears, but that might explain the apparently random nature of it fitting or not. _________________ Steve

Steve,
I came to the very same conclusion! However,I didn't have an opportunity over the weekend to check it out.
I'll do so this week - hopefully, that might be the answer.
If not, my pal has a very clever little camera gizzmo on the end of a flexible stalk [ he's a mechanic, NOT the SWAT team ! ] that should be conclusive.
It's ANNOYING more than anything not having the answer.

Tried it in different gears, neutral, false neutral, clutch in and out, still won't fit.
I could feel something moving though when I had it inserted and was shifting the gears, but not enough movement to let it down into the gearbox.
Oh well, the "L" shaped dipstick is only a few dollars, I think I'll order one. _________________ Steve

Hi, All,
The "L" dipstick was in the toolkit of both my '95 and '96 K1100LT's. The shock spanner (wrench) had no line engraved in either toolkit. The shock spanners in the toolkits of both my '94 and '95 K75's have the line engraved.
