|
|
Hi Everyone,
It has been a while since I have posted here, due to a fractured/dislocated shoulder which has kept me out of action.
I'm trying to install new speakers, and am having difficulty accessing
the left speaker. I am able to get the stereo out of its dock with the special
hooks, but don't see how to get the dock itself out so I can access the two
screws which bolt through the upward section of cockpit fairing.
Any ideas? I'm sure I am missing something obvious.
Cheers,

Yes, there are tabs located, can't remember where, on three sides. If you stick a screwdriver down through the holes in the sides you can feel around and find them. They need to be bent flush to get it out. When you finally see what they are yu are going to say, Doh, because it's pretty simple. _________________ Scott Hespelt, '94 K11LT

They are 3 small holes, for a pocket screwdriver, no bigger.
One at the top, bottom and left side middle.
I think I have an extra radio carriage rack in the garage, I'll see if I can dig it out and take a picture of it this afternoon when I get home from work. Then you can see exactly what you are dealing with. _________________ Ride safe.

Craig - as Scott said - there are three holes - top, left/outside, and bottom. These holes are right at the edge of the housing. If you use a screwdriver, you need a fairly small one. I use a small scribe/awl or a pick tool. Rich uses bamboo skewers - anything small enough to fit in the hole and sharp will work.
There is a spring steel tang that you have to move in toward the center of the housing as you pull up on the housing.
If you don't want to reset the radio codes, you can use this method to pull the radio. _________________ Jim

Craig, here's the pics.
The first one here is from the top-side view. Shows the tab and the "notch" the the spring clip "catches".
The 2nd pic here is from the underside where you can see the scratches from being installed and removed.
Like Jim mentioned, once you release the catch clip you need to be pulling up a little bit to get the bracket past the catch. It works best to start the top or bottom then the middle then the other. _________________ Ride safe.

This WEEK? We don't accept such laziness 'round here. You will do it NOW.
Unless, of course, you have a valid excuse... Like a shoulder injury, or a need for more sleep, or, perhaps, a dozen fresh donuts just arrived. _________________ 1993 K1100RS
