I'm back into biking after a 20+ year hiatus for "responsible" parenthood and with my 93k11, am now returning to roadwork. There is a new "new feature" to highways up here that folks out there may have some experience with -- I need some guidance before I learn it all the wrong way.
Tthe sate DOT had put what they call "rumble strips" on the shoulders and centerlines of many of the state and federal trunk lines. They are essentionally "divits" about 12 inches wide and maybe an inch deep, about on maybe a foot spacing.
Their effect, and I'm sure intention, is to rumble your car if you ever approach the centerline or shoulder and are unaware of your lane position -- wake up the sleeping driver I presume.
Anyway, the shoulders don't concern me as much as the centerlines.
I've yet to touch one, but I have to ask if any one has any experience with them. In a turn, or starting a pass on a turn, what is their effect on a bike? I have death induced fears that they'll cause the bike to skip out from underneath the pilot.
Any and all advice is appreciated.......... you guys are proving to be a wealth of valuable knowledge.
Thanx |

Not an issue. You should be more worried about wet metal grated bridge decks. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
