I just ordered a bunch of odds and ends from Chicago BMW for the next K75 I'm going to build. Curious as to how long their lead times have been of late..... _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Last time I ordered, they just left the order sitting there until I called and asked what was going on. The guy mumbled something about there only being two of them working in that department.
If the order doesn't show up after an unreasonable wait, give 'em a call and ask them to send your order... _________________ Jim

Same here. Found them on a shelf and was wondering who to send them to. But CalSporttouring wasn't any better. I sent my intercom in for work with the proper return # in the address label. Thinking they might not see it in the label I wrote the # on the back with a giant felt pen. After a couple of weeks I called them and they didn't know anything about it. Then he says there is a box on the shelf but it had no return authorisation # on it so they didn't no what to do with it. I didn't say anything and he says "Oh, here it is on the address label." I say, 'Now turn the box over." "oh." _________________ Scott Hespelt, '94 K11LT

So you're saying that next time you will put the auth # on all 6 sides. _________________ Ride safe.

Hi, Drake,
The two orders I can remember (there may have been three, but I can remember two) took a month at least to reach me. Each time I called, I was told one of the parts hadn't come in and as soon as it did, the order would go out. I use Chicago for parts I want, but don't need right now. I'll use them for the clutch cable and nipple and I carry on the bike (but don't NEED now), the valve cover gasket to replace the one I just used, etc. I'm NOT using them for the "air accumulator", folding key blank and fork seal I want NOW for my new (to me) '95 K75RTP.

I'll start bugging them next week.
I ordered fomr them about six months ago, including a new pair of city cases.
When I called four weeks later, they told me the let one wasn't in yet, let me check. Two minutes later and "It just came in today, I'll ship tomorrow."
Maybe if I send THEM a pack o M&Ms that would speed them up. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I go up to Chicago BMW a couple of times a year for parts. Most of the items I've needed were in stock, no problem.
They always have many boxes of parts all over, I suspect they get things in, just have difficulty getting them shipped to the customers on a timely basis.
My suggestion would be to ask how long items not in stock will take, then call regularly when the tme has elapsed. They likely will have the items and be able to ship. i.e. light a fire under them. _________________ '93 K1100LT

The shop that does include the M&Ms never puts me through that- They always email me within a day or two stating that they received my order and let me know when it will ship. (almost always within a day or so)
What does Chicago have that makes people put up with that krap?? _________________ John & Cathy

20% off.
I recently received my clutch switch from CBMW and thought the wait was reasonable given it was backordered from the motherland.
Clutch switch installed and glad to have it working again. No one should go without this switch for $20 and a fairly easy install. I used the old wire to fish the new one through the tangle under the tank. _________________ Jim

OK- I'll quote myself.
Still wondering why put up with that- I also ordered a clutch switch and guess I paid $4 more by going through Max than if I had ordered through Chicago.
But having to call back at least once, if not twice, to ask where my order is (apparently others have had to do that with CBMW) isn't worth it.
Why should I have to remind them to do their job? That would really bother me. I order and forget about it until it arrives. _________________ John & Cathy

Well, for me I like to buy locally.
However, this was my first purchase from them and like you am not enthused about making another purchase from them in the future. If it was something I definately needed and could not wait I would probably call to see if it was in stock and then just drive in (30 mi) and pick it up. In this case it was the jumper that bypasses the kickstand kill switch ( I hate having to restart the bike after getting off to open the garage door!) and it was an online purchase that I was not in a hurry to receive.
I am a staunch customer service advocate and I do leave appropriate tips for expected service (TIPS= T.o I.nsure P.roper S.ervice). And I will drive out of my way if I feel I have been dissed by someone local.
One time in a family Pizza Place, with my 2 yo and 6 yo our order was lost. After 30 mins I asked our waiter who needed another 15 minutes to determine that "the kitchen messed up". Pizza arrived after another 20 mins (by now kids are out of their minds!). I ask for manager when the bill arrives and he offers a coupon for a free appetizer on our next visit!
(6 years later and next visit is still waiting to happen...)
Waiter received $.25 tip (because that was what rounded the bill up to the next dollar).
I under stand "s" happens, but gimme a break and recompense the customer for your errors.
So, it will probably be a very LONG time before CBMW gets my business. |

My oder was about $240 and I'm not in a big hurry so the 30% discount was worth it to me. I know the routine of buggin them so I'll call them next Monday to give them a nudge. I usually make smaller purchases at my local dealer as it's less than 10 minutes away and their current staff is pretty decent. There were a few years when I'd order from A&S because the parts people at Ride West weren't very good - even when I brought in part numbers it seemed to be a struggle for them. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Obviously, you haven't met Drake - I don't think there is anything fat about him! He is noted for typos, though. _________________ Jim

Yep, typo. Should be 20%,
But it tells you how much dealers make on parts. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Hmmm... I ordered on the 8th.
Just checked my bank account online and there's a charge from Chicago BMW on the 13th. I'm pretty sure that they don't charge you until they ship so that means it shipped in 5 days. I really didn't expect that as I ordered seom obscure parts which I assumed would be backordered.
My last order last fall was about $450 (new pair of city cases and a few other things) so I wonder if wasting lots of moolah there gets you proirity???
I"m off to the store to buys some M&Ms. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

FAIL! It took them 5 days to run the charge - it'll take them 5 weeks to ship! Give 'em a call and let us know what they said... _________________ Jim
