A little quiz...
The old alongside new.
Installed.
With that sexy BFD.
Let's see who can identify the manufacturer and model of the shock I just put on today.
All will be revealed in about 24 hours... _________________ tlp

Looks like a " Marzocchi " shock design to me.
Model I most certainly do not know.
Nice shock, sweet ride & the highly coveted BFD.
Very nice. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Alright I'll bite.
It is not an Ohlins, not a Wilbers, not a Koni, not a Works, Not a Progressive Suspension......Guessing maybe Bilstein, but I do not remember any with a remote reservoir....

It is black - or close enough - just peel the sticker off... _________________ Jim

Wow - now there's a skillful dealer. If I didn't know better, I'd think sailbahama was an alter-ego for Flying Duck. Maybe I don't know better...

Great. Something I've never paid any attention to. Now I'm self-conscious. I'll peel that sticker off tonight and schedule an appointment at the body shop to paint that battery 670 Classic Black.

Have no fear - I only use the "stun" setting.

OK, partial credit for the analytical process and at least naming the manufacturer.
It is a Works Performance Pro Racer, a 1998 build originally from my last ST1100. I gave it to my brother to put on his bike. It sat in the box for three years until I reclaimed it. I liked the shock (pre-load, compression and rebound adjustments) and looked for a new one to put on my KRS. But alas, Works does not make a Pro Racer fitment for BMW. The suggested shock is their Steel Tracker which has a remote reservoir, which I assume j o has on his bug-eyed motoheap.
Anyway I was curious how different the bolt spacing was between the ST and K. Turns out the K's is about 1 3/8" longer. Since my '94 has ABS II, I could see that the piggyback would have adequate clearance, similar to an Öhlins. I called Works to see if my old shock could be retrofitted to fit the KRS. I spoke with one of their engineers (Sandy) who said that with a longer shaft, it should work. He said that as far as he knew, this would be the only Pro Racer on a BMW.
I sent it in, had them put on the longer shaft, new springs and correct bushings and perform the rebuild service (new seals, oil, etc.). Sandy was helpful, but I can't say much for the quality or speed of their service department. I know this was a custom job, but not too far out of the scope of their typical rebuild service.
To add to the aggravation, I ordered it with the optional ARS (Adjustable Rate Suspension) cup that allows adjustments for additional rider and cargo without adjusting the threaded preload. They forgot to put it on. Since I was anxious to see how it rode, I put it on this weekend anyway. I like it a lot. I did some tweaking with it, but I expect I will do so for a while until I feel it's dialed in as good as I can get it.
But I took it off last night and sent it back out to Works to have them put the ARS on. I just hope they don't f**k around with it for another eight weeks... _________________ tlp

They finally got the ARS on. What a pain in the ARSe dealing with these guys.
As it should be.
Oh, and I removed the sticker from the battery so j o wouldn't feel embarrased to ride alongside. _________________ tlp

And I suppose you've got a sweet deal on an almost-like-new set...
I'll be sure to keep the side cases on when at Hungry Dungee so as not to embarrass the K11OldGeezers... _________________ tlp

Naw, I keep the good ones for MY bikes.
Bag rail wear is a good sign. It means your bike has actually been used for some serious touring. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
