Hello,

Any thermal engineers among this group of K lovers? I'm seriously considering installing the 'johnny blancket" from either home depot material of something similar.

My question is this.... won't this trap heat that otherwise would be vented? And if so, what damage to electrical or other parts could this trapped heat inflict?

My bike has enough electrical gremins without adding to the problem, but boy would I like to keep the oven off my arse.

Jeff

Jeff,

No thermal engineers only a group of folks with baked legs (newer K owners without heat mods) or happier, more comfortable people (those who have "put on the foil"). Plus a few who for some reason never have a heat problem.

I personally have not seen any heat related damage- and there are several others in warm climates that are damage-free.
But given that it was do this mod or get rid of the bike, I figured I'd give it a go.

I did quilted foil from the steering head to the front of the rear fender.

PLUS wire in a manual fan switch.

Those two things have made a huge difference. HUGE.

We get some really hot days here in N.H. but I can't imagine being in the south during summer with an un-modded K bike between your legs. OUCH.

Good luck.
John

I wouldn't worry about it. I doubt it's trapping much heat, more like it just gets routed somewhere else so I can't imagine there's more than a few degress difference under the tank. Also, any potential damage that might be done would probably be rubber wearing out more quickly as opposed to anything electrical.
