What year K1200 wheels fit on a K1100?
It's time for a new rear tire and I'm thinking about going to the wider wheel/tire combo.
Thanks -

don't know about the 1200 but a 1100RS or RT wheel will work and is wider. (4.50x18)

Sorry...
It's for a K100RS/SE.
I remember a lot of discussion here about it some time ago, and that the swap required a different thickness spacer. But I haven't found anything by searching...

Just be careful with a wider wheel/tire combo so you don't rub the driveshaft housing.

Alan's K11RS had K12 wheels. I talked to him about it one day when we met up. If I recall correctly:

The rear is pretty much bolt on and go.

According to Alan a custom or modified front axle was required. Can't remember if there were brake issues (which rotors to use and rotors lining up with calipers) but that's another thing to consider.

No, Alan's RS was red and had both front and rear K1200RS wheels. It was done by a dealer in Apple Valley, CA who has done other things to other Ks as well.

Jayk.

The 4.5 3 spoke K1100RS wheel fits straight into the k100 - I've done it.

Only possible probs are interference on the silencer [ mine is upswept so no prob ] and definitely fouling the centre stand - again no probs as I've ditched mine!

If EVER I find out how to list pix , I'll flag some up.

My latest Kay projects are Streetfighter and a Race Rep which uses a modified '09 yam R6 top fairing, Yam R1 seat cowl and hand formed side panels.

I'm also swapping in a complete k1100RS front end so I've got better brakes.

Ahha - OK, just confused by your previous posting! Confused Confused

As soon as I get hold of a pair of 1200 wheels at the right price, that will be the next upgrade for the K100 Race Rep.

There's been a LOT of discussion on th UK and EU forums re: "twin tracking", but in the real World, it makes no difference at all - especially no need to worry as BMW send their bikes out in that state! eg K1100LT [4" wheel ] K1100RS [ 4.5" wheel ]. Rolling Eyes

I'm swapping in a pair of K1100LT 3 spokers into myK100 Streetfighter - although the more I look at those 1200 spokers, the more I like them!
Cool TJ
Keep us posted with progress.

I was told you can use K1100 4 Piston brakes on the K100. I have a few extra sets of K11 calipers but cant find any info on what is involved in the upgrade. Anyone have info on this up grade. It would be great with the K11 wheels upgrade.

I've done some looking into this for a nekked K75 I plan to build this fall/winter since the K75/K100 front brakes simply don't have the bite that the 4-piston calipers do. In addition, running K11 wheels will let you run radial Pilot Road 2s.

It's my understanding that the calipers don't quite line up on the rotors. Since the K11 forks also are slightly larger diameter my plan is to just upgrade the whole front end: K11 fork trees, forks, fork brace, brake lines, rotors, calipers and wheel. I have checked with parts in my basement and the fork trees will work so I think replacing everything is the solution. You'll give up the ability to lock the forks and need to run a K1100 ignition setup too but that's pretty easy to wire in.

Wow, long time since I have been to the K11 OG Embarassed

Yes I have a 5 inch K1200RS wheel on my K1100RS, 170 size tire. I use the standard spacer, just had to grind off some from the heads of the allen screws holding the brake disc. You must find the best of the four positions to mount the wheel, as some of the allen screws can hide inside the 1200 rim. The ones that don`t, need some grinding.
Mark the position for rim and brake disc with a marker so you don`t mess up next time the wheel is off.

K1200 REAR FITS ON WITH A 170 BUT YOU HAVE TO TAKE YOUR DISC & CALIPER OFF TO REMOVE THE WHEEL

I've been away for a while too - health issues, back [ almost ] to rude health now.

OK - Rear wheel is a shoe in, clearance issues on centre stand / exhaust, but can be done.

The front is a different matter. First off the K1200 wheel uses a 20mm dia spindle with a smaller dia sleeve [ fok leg clamp ]. I found it best in the end to use all the components relative to the wheel - discs, calipers, etc.

The only answer is have a new spindle machined with a 20mm main shaft body to take the K1200 bearing size with a 25mm OD sleeve to match up with the K1100 fork legs. You'll also need to note where the spindle shoulders are relevant to both wheels.

Mine's nearly complete for the K1200 / K1100 conversion, I'm working on R1150GS [ wire spoked ] / K1100 conversion next.

Keep me posted on your R1150GS wire spoke conversion - I've just taken delivery of a pair of R1100GS wheels and will be trying exactly the same...

They look lovely - I really hope it's possible without too much pain - happy to get new discs but don't really want to buy new callipers - I can see this domino-ing to new forks, yokes, frame and engine...
