|
|
Any suggestions for a decent rear luggage rack to replace the top case setup on my 94 K1100LT? I've got the flexible polymer rack and top case set up currently and want to have a flat wide rack on which I can tie my tent, sleeping pads, chair etc. for camping trips.
1. Anybody know of anyone making/selling a rear rack?
2. Anybody make one themselves that works?
3. Anyone familiar with this rack: http://www.d-r-engineering.de/bmw-rack.htm ? Web site pictures show it attached to the smaller rack/cowl set up ... not sure how to attach it to my tail cowl set up. _________________ Rainbows end down that highway where ocean breezes blow

This rack attaches to the holes used on the RS models for passenger hand holds.
My 94 LT didn't have the holes - one could drill them I suppose.
I have one of the d-r racks - nice piece - the mounting spacers they provided were pieces of rubber fuel line - I found some hard plastic ones @ Lowes and cut/ground to fit. Rack is more secure now. _________________ Dave Norris KOG 248

The LT has the exact same holes as the RS. They just have rubber plugs in them since the LT rear rack would hit the handholds. No drilling is required. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I also have a d r engineering rack but only use it for longer trips. Just takes a few minutes to install or remove.
Nice piece but those rubber spacers are throw away items as Dave N noted _________________ John & Cathy

In my opinion, one of the best racks was the Reynolds. The one that fits the k1100 is marked R-241. the problem is finding a used one. The company has been out of business for about 10 years.

Ive got the Reynolds Rack on my RS and the Givi base rack on the K75. I prefer the Givi because it's more stable while the RR will shake around a little if loaded up. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Or build your own, if all goes well there should be a picture of my camping rack based on an F650 topbox base and a piece of marine plywood
