5 week bump...
our work schedule is cast in stone... its gonna be like last year...
friday july 31 we are in tacoma wa till 10am... gonna drive to burlington wa and unload the motoheap... gonna leave our rig at the fairfield... gonna roll to the ferry and be at the hungree dungee late afternoon...
will return to the fairfield on sunday evening and load the motoheap and be at mondays job in burlington wa at 6am...
so... if any of you old geezers are gonna ride the deceptive pass and take the keystone to port townsend ferry... perhaps we can hook up in burlington...

Why wouldn't you ride Hwy 16 from Tacoma to Dungee Duck's? Bad route? No place to leave the rig in Tacoma?

He has to have the big rig in Burlington for Monday morning. Better to have that taken care of ahead of time.

By the way, if you have any "leftover" aerial fireworks (mortars, rockets) after the 4th, fell free to bring them with you. I like to go out to the middle of the bay in the boat after dark and light up the night sky. The echoes are pretty good too....

Scouting report:
I was up there over this past weekend. Unfortunately, several years ago, word got out in the local boating community that there are crab in Kilisut Harbor (the body of water our cabin is on.) This means that my crabbing grounds tend to get quite a bit of pressure these days from people boating through the area so it's not quite as easy as it used to be so there is no guarantee there will be fresh crab.
However, I'll be going up a few days ahead of time so I can crab Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and tend my crab pots every few hours. I have a few secret spots where nobody else knows there are crab so i'll be hitting those spots. Therefore, although there's no guarantee, chances are pretty good there will be fresh crab.
I did manage to catch 9 or 10 last weekend (the opening of crabbing season) and now have about three pounds of crab meat in the freezer so worst case you'll be subjected to crab cocktails and my secret recipe for crab cakes which have more crab in them that you'll get at any restaurant.
Nothing beats the fresh ones right out of the boiler though.....
Or my super-special treat where I take the big chunks from the legs and pincers, dip them in fresh garlic butter, wrap them in partially cooked bacon and them finish them off on the grill: NIRVANA!

Also, if you're coming up Hood Canal on 101 then I HIGHLY recommend that you make a quick stop at the Olympic Timber House restaurant in Quilcene and grab a cup of their clam chowder. It's some of the best around... and I know my clam chowder.

There's another quart in a regular container too so we won't be running out. This smaller bottle will make a nice HD09 momento for the cabin.

Any thoughts for Saturday's ride? I know it would be ambitious, but I would love to head down to Fort Clatsop on 101. Looks to be under 600 miles round trip. Or is the 101 a poor choice on a weekend?

That would be a L-O-N-G day, even solo on a weekday, much less with a group on a weekend. And yeah, summer weekend traffic will be rather thick on 101 so I don't think that's viable.
One of the better rides is to go out to Neah Bay and back. And, if you're want to get up early also run up to Hurricane Ridge.
I was thinking that Saturday would be riding day and kick back at the cabin on Sunday. Although the weather SHOULD be good, you nver know around here so it might make sense to do things the other way around.
There would be three options for the riding day:
1) Get up early, have an early breakfast at The Chimacum Cafe, hit Hurricane Ridge and then head on over to Neah Bay and ride home from there.
2) Get up moderately early, have breakfast at the Chimacum Cafe and just ride to Neah Bay and back. (That's what Johny, Micki and I did last year.)
3) Make it to The Chimacum Cafe by 10:45 (they stop serving breakfast at 11:00) and take a ride up to Hurricane Ridge and back.
B=Chimacum Cafe
C=Hurricane Ridge (great view of The Olympics)
E=Neah Bay (yes you can ride to the ocean from there)
Of course on the "non-riding" day people can go up to Fort Flagler to check that out or take a ride into Port Townsend or whatever...

So true, and very easy on the oil. I might be in for a ride, that many 11's would be epic. I think I might be able to keep up if jo is on his dilapidated 100mph wind tunnel machine.
