It's for a special occasion.

Steve and I are getting married on Saturday September 12th, and I wanted a Hill Billy Wedding Cake. I couldn't find anyone to do what I wanted, so I decided to do it myself.

It will be held at Lydia Mountain Lodge in Stanardsville, Virginia http://www.lydiamountainlodge.com/

I figured it wasn't rocket science.

That cake topper is an architectural masterpiece!

But what do I know...

Congrats to the bride and groom on the upcoming "hitching." I'll be thinking of you on that day as I ride the Going to the Sun Highway in Glacier NP. And we look forward to photos...

Klinker:

Tried to pm/email you but it went to sdaniel on both. Here's a link to the NPS site providing road info at Glacier: http://home.nps.gov/applications/glac/roadstatus/roadstatus.cfm

One of the rangers there rides a K12LT; search the BMWLTC site and get his contact info. Good guy.

Yeah, keep an eye on the road stauts. They like to work on it after Labor Day and before Mem. Day when there isn't snow.

Hi, Gwen (and Steve),
CONGRATULATIONS or, if you prefer, FELICIDADES! Too bad a bunch of us aren't closer. I trust Steve will be in attendance at Hungry Mother III so we can meet him. Is he ever a lucky dude!
Best to you both,
Phil

I also painted the welcoming signs.

I didn't have time to hand letter them, so the letters were cut and I applied them.

These will be A-fraimed / hinged and placed on Highway 33 pointing up the mountain road.

It's a cool ride - watch out for 4 wheelers coming way across the yellow line - it's a narrow road.

If I had it to do again (maybe I will), I would park the bike and ride the free shuttle both ways (it makes regular stops) so I could actually see the scenery.

I'd ride it once and take the shuttle once (over and back to the bike)

Jim, check your email.

Congrats there you two. I was hoping you could get it done this year.
Am looking forward to meeting the lucky man at HMIII as well.
