Hi, Jim,
One used to drain the vapors from the tank (sometimes liquid fuel) through a 1-way valve into the crankcase. Yes, BMW routed it directly into the crankcase instead of into a charcoal cannister and into the air box. Many have plugged the drain hose to the crankcase and routed the vented vapor/liquid down behind the brake pedal. At the same time the flapper in the tank filler cap is removed, hence the word, "flapperectomy". _________________ Ride Safe,

Two bolts of the correct size. I have had my GS tank sitting in the garage for 4 months without a drop coming out. Upon remval of fuel bolt to refit, hey presto, pissing fuel. Started 1st time as well!!
