how necessary is the felt ring? What is it accomplishing? Do I need to buy an oem part or can I make one from store bought felt? Would a pastic washer work?
I couldn't find a piece of felt on, in, or around the adjuster. Could that missing piece have sped up the demise of the cable? It seems the barrel was well oiled but i'll make sure to do a better job with the new one.
my brother cleaned up the bike real well so i'll get some new shots of that posted this weekend. Got some questions about some paint issues he found (looks like heat damage on some spots of the belly pan). Duck, roughly how much was it to line-x your bike's belly pan?
again thanks for the help folks! _________________ (formerly) 1993 k1100rs |

Re clutch cable. I would buy new as they usually last for a long while. Tank off job but not too difficult. With Beemer clutches you put the lever end in 1st and then fit the bottom end at the pivot arm. You may have lost the cable top end nipple which is seperate as when they break, this sometimes drops out.
Adjust a good 10mm at the top adjuster thread and then get your freeplay roughly set up with the bolt adjuster on the back of the pivot arm. I always leave at least 5mm+ free play at the lever and this is the very lightly sprung free play as there is a small spring in the pivot arm boot at the bottom.
Biggest job is getting the rubber cover at the bottom end through the hole in the gearbox...
Sorry if this is a repaeat of above but i have skimmed through thread. |

| PS Whatever you do, don't stick a big wad of grease on the top nipple as the grit sticks to it and then abrades your cable. i have seen shops do it and hey presto... |
