Given the low mileage, if the fork uppers aren't getting wet then there's really no need to mess with the fork seals. If it ain't broke.... _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I didn't know you could get oil from cats. I think you just solved America's energy problems!!! _________________ 1997 K1100LT

Fork seals on low mileage bikes can often go as they get hard and less flexible. BM's are best used so you are going the right way!
As stated, clean it up and see if it reappears. If it's a fork seal it will be very noticable!
Gearbox's are sometimes notchy on K's but some of it may be down to getting use to the shaft arrangement and if you do things like lube the pivot points with some light spray ans possibly do the same to the clutch cable. I used graphite spray in the past with great results. You have ot watch some sprays as the cable has a nylon sheath.
Clutch use for changes is usually "less if more" so preload your gearlever and "feel" the change as much as you can and you'll get the idea. |

Does it seem like BMW's have more fork seal problems than other brands? I've owned Honda's, Kaw's, Harleys and a BSA and have never had forkseal problems like I've had on my BMW's. I have a 1976 Honda CB750 that still has the original's in yet. _________________ 1993 K-1100LT. 1986 K-75C . 1992 K75RT. 1976 Honda CB 750A |

Well I have to eat crow on this one.
On the one hand, it's good because I'm convinced I don't have a leak on the bike at all and therefore it will cost me nothing to fix.
On the other hand, I'm almost certain I've put my hand in cat piss and rubbed my fingers together trying to figure out what's going on. I'm glad I decided not to taste anything when diagnosing.
My amazing deductive powers kicked in when I realized if something was leaking, it was now also leaking on my center stand, rear tire, as well as the front tire. I have not gathered the courage to try the sniff test, choosing rather to go with the visual data at hand and the presence of far too many free-range cats in our neighborhood.
If you have a garage, be thankful. Likewise if your part of the world is blessed with ample and hungry coyotes. _________________ 1997 K1100LT

I'm glad I don't have to but if I had to choose between tasting cat piss and brake fluid...
We need to brainstorm ways for you to protect your bike. This cannot be allowed to continue!!! _________________ Jim

I will not tolerate stray cats. No collar on da cat, bye bye kitty. They kill way to many game birds in these parts.
Yes, we have a pet cat & two dogs. How do you know it's not a dog?
If U don't care, solution = Hardware store / #2 Conibear trap + fish head.
Put out only at night, remove promptly. If you have loose curious dogs, do not go this route. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

As a cat owner (they are strictly indoor varmints),
I was going to suggest some bowls of left over anti-freeze for them, but that might not be PC. _________________ Steve
