Yep. I tried to get hold of one for about a month, and gave up. Its why I am going to do battle with the electronic cruise control.
Cheers.

Johnny's just kidding. I gave him a hands on tutorial when I helped him install one on the Motoheap a few weeks ago. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

So if you go down the electronic one route, how do you do the speed sensor? It does not list the coil as a speed sensor source? What did you do to get it going?
Which model electronic one did you use?
The CCS-100 don't seem to be being made any more! _________________ K1100RS '97

I'm going to do the electronic CC this winter. There is a speed sensor input into the motronic brain. That is what I cut away when Saltcreek and I did the Fuel+ swap last Spring.
Right now I am away from my usual laptop so I can't access the manual that shows which # terminal to use. But it does exist and that can give the input needed. IMHO. _________________ John & Cathy

I don't think there's a speed input into the Motronic. Why would it care about your speed?
However, in my experiments with the CCS-100 I found that you can tap into the wires from the speedo sensor and that worked fine. I decided to go with just the coil because having it tapped into the speedo sensor was just another thing to fail and the coil connection was required.
I'd guess the electronic one also taps into the coil as a safety measure to prevent engine runaway - like the CCS-100 does. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I tapped into the lead from the tach to the ign controller instead of the lead from the coil. No speedo connection either. _________________ Ride safe.

That'll pay for my next experiment, the Rostra 250-1223 electronic cruise control. Looks like a decent unit and has been installed on other MCs.

I have the Rostra. I bought it from Murphs kits, it arrived a few days ago.
Because of heavy work commitments I havn't had chance to look at installation yet. One thing I have noticed though, is that the unit is quite large. In the little time I have had spare I did manage to look at where it might fit on the bike, and for me, as I have no radio in the left fairing pocket, it looks like that is where it will have to go. Apparently the unit needs to be visible to be able to see a built in test light, and access to the switches to set it up.
I feel a challenge coming on!.
Cheers.

I too have the 1223 winging it's way here, looking at the wiring diagrams (which are really crap!) there is definitely no connection to the motronic from the speedo. Now the specs for the 1223 definitely say it can take a sine wave input which is the most likely thing the speedo sensor puts out.
So to make this easier, on Friday I'll take the bike to work and wander down to the garage with our portable oscilloscope and look at the speedo sensor signals for you and measure the pulse size/rate/shape etc.
As mentioned maybe the tacho signal could be used too, I'll check that out too.
Cheers

Hey, Rich:
I downloaded the manual for it and am going through it now to figure how how to configure it.
Since you have one on hand, would you mind taking a few measurements for me?
1) How long is the cable? Control unit to end of sheathing and then how much cable is exposed?
2) What are the dimensions of the control unit box? (LxWxH)
It comes with some beads and a throttle hookup that looks like a little hangman's noose, right?
Once you have it working there's really no need to see the test LED. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Will do, no problem. Watch this space as our time difference gets in the way i.e I;m going to bed .
Its times like this that GMT UTC etc should be scrapped and move on to UBT. Thats universal beer time. All the same the world over. _________________ 1993 K1100LTIC.

Drake is correct. There's no speed input to the motronic, but there is a speed input to the flasher controller for the auto cancel funtion to work. This signal line comes out of the inst pod.
I don't know if it is a "raw" signal like what comes up from the sensor or if it is a "processed" signal from within the pod. I don't have a pod schematic available at the moment. _________________ Ride safe.
