So I got the fairing lower right back from being painted as it had the only blemish on it, plus the new decals on the lower faring, put it all back together last night and woke up to find it wasn't 30 C, so on with all the gear and off I went to really put some miles on and wake the riding muscles in the hands and neck up!!

Man it was actually cold up in the hills, now before you all feel sorry for me, cold was about 25 C, but in my defence it was raining a bit as well....

So some pickies. I took this pic just to remind the snow bound folks reading this what green looks like, hahahahaha:-

Lots and lots of nice windy fast road, this one on Mt Mee:-

Breakfast at Jallas in Woodford, they do the best BFB breakfast, the tool on the yellow bike had helmet, shorts and sandles on and his rather stunning girlfriend had helmet, even shorter shorts (complete with camel toe), midriff high singlet with boobs falling out the side and rubber thongs on her feet, awesome to look at but I wonder if he'd still go out with her if she was covered in skin grafts...... :-

More fast roads, this one on the approach to Maleny from Woodford. One of the best roads in the area!

The almighty Mapleton pub, stopped for a quick lemonade and admired the views across to the beaches.

Not too many QLDers know about this road, the Bellthorpe Range Road, 10ks of steep switchbacks. This particular picture is to the left, and the next one is from the same spot but 45 degrees to the right! It was also covered in gravel and stuff from the recent rains and I was going down this time!!

Free range plants? I guess they deserve a nice life too.

Dam fine looking bike there!! Somerset Dam for the locals.

So we covered 400 klms in 6 hours, not too bad considering all the slow stuff, bike went faultlessly, even the suspension was great, I hit a massive slammer of a bump when hauled right over in one fast corner and the steering didn't even twitch, stayed right on line!! Real happy with that. I still think the vibration in the 100 - 120 kmh range is excessive, but it smooths out a bit either side of that.

Now I'm home and looked at the bike, it's covered in mud, possibly the first time in its life so will crack a few cans of cold VB and clean it up...Smile

And it's not only the snow bound ones that need a reminder of green - down this way it is as dry as a witches, whatever and brown; as usual this time of year though.

Most of us just use water, but I suppose that's as good a use for VB as you are likely to find Very Happy

G’day Drikko, Cracking photo's, our weather is pretty much the same. The rain has abated, there hasn’t been a cloud in the sky this weekend. Perfect riding weather, it’s a pity we don’t have interesting rods around Joburg. Our nearest half decent roads are around Hartbeespoort dam, about 60km from town, half of Joburg and Pretoria head there on a Sunday, I avoid the place coz its waaay tooo busy, too many bikers have accidents out there.

On my next free Sunday I’ll take a ride to the Free State and Lesotho border, a nice 750km brekky run AND post some photos. It should be in 2 or 3 weeks.

Suppose you’re also able to ride 12 months of the year !!

EDIT: Here are a few pics of a trip to the Eastern Transvaal in Oct 09.

Cullinan, nr Pretoria, taken a couple of weekends ago..

And from home.. twelve noon today, not bad for mid February

Hey Drikko,

Yep, Slaap Stad AKA Cape Town has the riding in the country.
The Kwaka owner looked like he didnt have 2c to his name, maybe he didnt after finishing the project.
Its not my kinda bike but you gotta admire the work that went into it.

Here's a couple more pics, notice how my K11 mirror snook into one.

Wanna see something really SICk.
Some dork advertied a 'custom' in our local classifieds.
What a mess, he needs locking up and slapping for creating such an abortion.

Now that's a gold FD and swing arm and rims, obviously not stock. What year is that? Custom painted?

Otherwise great pictures of down under, my dream vacation, ...one day!

My K11 is 92, The wheels and swingarm were painted by a previous owner. I'd intended to put them back to the the bronze colour but havent got round to it, it kinda grows on you.

The paint is getting a little tatty on the rims with tyre changes, it may be getting closer to needing taking back to standard.

Hey Malcolm, do you have any pictures of tourists being eaten alive by tigers or crocodiles?

Let me check the archives.
There wont be any with tigers, they are a little scarce in Africa.
Croc's do get people, and some illegal immigrants get chowed by lions as the sneak in through the Kruger park.

I've got a magic pic of a HUGE bull elephant crossing the road, we took in in Botswana a few years ago.

There's an idea for the southern borders.

At the risk of moving way off topic, here is text from a posting from a SA national parks forum....

(South Africa's Once and Future Park)

Dedicated rangers crisscross Kruger via Land Rovers, bicycle, helicopter, and on foot to make sure that doesn't happen. Yet when tourism, conservation, and commerce all tug on the wildlife fabric, the edges start to unravel.

Containing Nature

As the adage goes, fences make good neighbors. Ideally, fenced wildlife parks keep wild animals in, and livestock and people (save low-impact tourists) out. This doesn't always happen. Kruger borders Zimbabwe to the north and Mozambique to the east. Conservation quickly becomes complex in such a geographical bind. Since 1992, Mozambique has struggled with the transition to peace after two decades of revolution and civil war. The turmoil in Mozambique, the world's poorest nation, has produced a steady flow of illegal immigrants into South Africa, the continent's richest. From 1993 through 1997, more than 16,000 illegals were picked up in Kruger; from January to July of this year, 2,160 were arrested. The eastern border offers a perfect entry spot for those seeking to disappear into the bush. Perfect, with one exception: the carnivores on the other side.

How many illegals are killed is anyone's guess. Rangers report human footprints in the veld vanishing into nowhere and cite scraps of torn clothing as evidence of immigrants being killed by wild animals. One notorious pride of lions killed at least seven Mozambican immigrants in two weeks. Fearing the safety of its own personnel, the park management decided to shoot the pride. "It was very scary, I promise you," says Kruger's head veterinarian Douw Grobler. And at 6'4", Grobler—known as the "Gentle Giant"—does not scare easily. He hopes in the future to use radiocollars to keep track of man-eating lions, and to avoid having to kill carnivores that are simply following their instincts.

Good morning Malcom...

At the risk of limiting our options, it doesn't sound like Kruger would be a wise selection for our K11OG International Camp-in ! Quite a story, THANKS !

very best regards.............// Ernie-NH

The Kruger has campsites within suitable fences.
Bikes are not allowed in BUT...
I stand to be corrected on this.. I believe BMW SA did once run a tour in the park. The bikes were selected for low noise and were escorted by rangers.

This may be another surprise, take a look here...

I have a few buddies who've done this, in fact the wife did one. I missed out, someone had to earn the cash for her holidays Crying or Very sad

Here are a few pics from the archives of critters we get onthe roads..

All the pics ( with the exception of the hippo sign) were taken by a rather pensive wife from the pillion of our K75 while passing through Botswana and Zim to Vic falls.
