Hi all,
I am wanting to lube the clutch cable on this 96 k1100rs. Normally there is a groove in the lever where the cable end fits in that allows you to slide the cable out sideways to disengage it from the lever. Don't see one though!
Just need to detach the cable to raise it and get some lube down through it. The cable end will not fit through the hole in the lever where the cable runs through. What am I missing?
I might as well ask about the throttle cable too, as I will be going there next. Haven't looked at it yet though...
thanks a plenty

Do not put anything in the cables. They are lined with a Teflonish substance and whatever you put in there will degrade it and shorten the cable's lifespan.
It's a good idea though to grease both ends and get the cable properly adjusted. Easy way to do it:
Pull in the clutch and stick a block of wood in between the clutch arm and exhaust to keep the clutch arm depressed. Then remove the pivot pin for the clutch lever. The cable end is in a little barrel in the clutch lever.
Not a bad idea to adjust the clutch periodically either:

Hi, Todd,
DO NOT LUBRICATE BMW CABLES!!!! They have an inside sheath (nylon, teflon, whatever) which, if lubricated, will be compromised and destroyed. If a cable "needs lubrication", it needs to be replaced. The lubrication points are the cylindrical fitting which fits into the clutch lever and the same shaped piece which fits into the clutch actuation arm. These should both be greased. This is an excellent spot (and about the only use I know of) for BMW #10 grease. _________________ Ride Safe,

This explains why the manual did not address this as periodic maintenance.
Very good then, thanks to both of you. _________________ Todd Glasier in Charlotte, NC

By the way...
How does the "little cylindrical thing" on the upper end of the cable come out of the clutch handle housing? If I take it off the bar will it be obvious? _________________ Todd Glasier in Charlotte, NC
