				| I have done something very amateur.
I was rebuilding my leaking master cylinder with the beemer boneyard kit. I was merrily unscrewing the banjo bolt with a ratchet however I was unknowingly tightening this and stripped the thread. It was very easy!

So I guess I'm up for a new master cylinder. This is disheartening; I was looking forward to riding the brick again and now won't be able to afford to fit it until i start my new job.

Is this part the ticket? 250AUD seems pretty good. I might just buy it and then get a mechanic to put it in.

				| Sounds a lot better than the $599 Munich Motorcycles (WA) want for a new complete assy. It might be worth a call to Motohansa in NSW 02 9638 4488 to see if they have anything rebuilt.
I'm carefully not going to say anything about how you got to this stage, except to remind you of a little mnemonic:

 Lefty Loosey, Righty Tighty

Good luck with getting it sorted.

				| Might be worth asking the BM shop in Brisbane if they have one. They have a lot of bikes they are dismantling.

				| The way I do it is imagine turning the water off with a tap for tighten.
Then it's turning the water on with a tap for loosen.

Dunno if that's a good one but works for me

				| Hi, Verybiased, Before you decide nothing is available, remember that the same master cylinder was used on both the K1100 bikes AND the R1100 bikes. Were you not in OZ, I would offer you the used master cylinder I have. I bought it before I rebuilt the master cylinder on my K1100LT 3+ years ago. Maybe you can find an R1100 front master cylinder in OZ and not have to worry about the length of time shipping might take.

I got some parts from Tom Cutter and the international flat rate box (170x140x40) costs about $A15 and takes about two weeks.

We will be needing to get more and more goodies over from the States as our dollar is good to go and airmail is not too bad.

Just gotta work out a way to get FDs and Trannys over cheap.

You guys Stateside have way more bikes in motorwreckers than we have going bikes in the whole of Oz.

That's for the small flat rate box which won't hold a master cylinder.

The medium flat rate box is roughly $42US. A K75, k100 or K1100 FD will fit in a medium flat rate box. A transmission is another story.

You won't believe how much the Honda moly 60 is here !

I just wish I could get a K11 from you Folk, still looking for mine!

In the meantime I am learning all I can, in advance, on how to fix it and the issues to look for.

Thanks very much for your generosity with your knowledge and time

The banjo bolt is the one that holds the brake line to the master cylinder. It would not be pretty to squeeze the brake lever and watch all the fluid squirt out when what you really need is to stop!

As far as I'm concerned, good brakes are one of the most important things on the bike - not something to fool around with. A bike that doesn't start is one thing - a bike that doesn't stop is something else entirely. A working master cylinder is probably worth every penny you pay for it.

VB - if you need anything shipped over let me know.

				| Pretty sure you can't helicoil the banjo bolt as if my memory serves me right the thread is in past where the fluid flows between the piston and the hose. Mind you it's been a long time since I looked!
BTW VB, I made an interesting discovery today, a 30 pack of VB cans fits perfectly in the standard K1100 RS pannier! One each side and it's a party!
