|
|
Hi, I have a question re the air intake of a 94 k1100lt.
I have recently got the bike and there is sooty deposit around the exhaust.
I figure that shes running rich, I replaced the air filter (tricky bugger) and noticed that the air intake is from a stiff plastic tube which runs to towards the front wheel.
On my bike this air intake pipe simply ends a couple of inches before a rectangular hole in the front under-wheel fairing.
Is there supposed to be something connecting the air intake hose to the fairing ? It seems like I maybe missing something.
Cheers. |

Good evening "buzzybee"...
If you go to Max Motorcycles Online Catalog page for K1100LT
"" http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?model=K1100LT&prod=021992-031997 ""
.... diagram 13-0520. You'll see the entire setup. On my bike, I cut and installed a circular piece of 1/4 x 1/4 galvanized mesh ( ie: rat wire ) just to keep out the mice and other critters that like to get into such spaces. You are not missing anything on the intake end of that pipe as it is.

Thanks Ernie for the link, but I am confused.... still.
On my k1100LT the air intake pipe is circular and ends short of the fairing, but on the diagram its not - here it is bent and ends in a rectangular section.
any ideas ? |

G'Day Buzzybee....
There are different configurations but they all terminate the same way. Mine is circular as is yours. You do not have a problem and there is nothing missing. You might want to consider what I did however at the intake orifice IF you have creatures in your area also...

Hi again Buzzybee....
I see I forgot to say that the rectangular version shown on the MAX link I sent you, is the K1, or K100 version which I believe actually connects t the fairing section.... however the K1100LT like yours and mine is ROUND and is not connected at the entrance to any portion of the fairing. For reference, if you have a Clymer, go to page 578 for the layout of the pre-filter breather system. See....... no problem !
Have fun and ride safe !

The sooty stuff on the exhaust is normal.
