It's important to me to find out more about this K11RS. It sounds like "Johnny" is well known here. After reading this whole thread I'm not sure I want to know why.
But I need to know more about this motorcycle. I looked through his motobrick website and all I found was travelogues.
I looked at the memberlist here and do not see a "Johnny". Please, what is his handle here. I want to read up on his posts for more information about this motorcycle. |

Jo didn't exactly document his forays into his motobrick, mechanically-speaking. He mostly wrote about riding.
If you will be keeping this motobrick dive into the tech section and start from there like the rest of us did when we bought a brick. Any questions feel free to ask.
About Johnny? He is an enigmatic, esoteric soul with a penance for wandering. He travels a lot, rides a lot, and eats a lot. I'm sure not many people here could say a thing bad about him, and the forum is at a loss for his humor and snappy witticisms.
I know I do/will miss him.
Regarding your bike? I am sure Jo gave you full disclosure of what he knew. Dive in and ask questions. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

I looked over his travelogues back 3 years before I looked at it in person. I saw things that didn't make sense. I should have brought my neighbor with me. He knows everything about lawn mowers and gas powered machines.
Johnny was very persuasive because he was so passionate about the motorcycle. The only promise he made was for me to ride it hard and it would be there for me and not to tinker with it like the "old geazers".
I went to 3 BMW dealers today and they were closed. I guess they say Sunday and Monday, gone riding. I wish I was riding. I'm on vacation this week. I was going to ride it to the Grand Canyon.
It's sitting in front of the door of the BMW dealer. When I get it back I will take some pictures.
Thanks for the handle. It looks like Mr. Owrstrich posted a lot of photos of Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi and did not say much about the K11RS. |

Ahh the pictures -- Owrstrich is a lifelong Democrat and fierce supporter of Obama and Pelosi, when he first started posting here he was spending much of his time using the bike to run new voter registration forms to ACORN volunteers in the field. I am betting if you look closely you might still see faint outlines where he had plastered reflective Obama stickers all over the back of the bike (though he did mention after removing them using some environmentally-friendly solvent to remove the sticker residue before he sold it - Soy-40 or something like that?) I was sorry to hear he sold the bike to get into a $50k a plate fundraiser just so he could get a picture with Nancy Pelosi, in my opinion that is not a great reason to sell a bike whatever your politics are. _________________

The bike used to be lit up like a Xmas tree. Maybe the lights are gone eliminating the need for switches. _________________ '93 K1100LT

I had nothing against Jo. Ever. You guys know I prefer people that speak their minds. I think the world is a much better place with people like Johnny O in it.
If anything it's kind of funny how he riled my ass constantly about his "pennies to maintain" brick that he ended up unceremoniously selling and was found to be held together with bungees and baling wire with all the warning lights taped over so he wouldn't have to see them. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

there really needs to be a sarcasm emoticon or punctuation mark.
completely unrelated to politics, but I don't really like how all those posts were lost and now are just those pictures. Kinda sad and rude that no one can see what he had to say anymore (even if he was the one to change them). _________________ (formerly) 1993 k1100rs |

Yes Brickzilla, all other things aside, this List is comprised of sturdy and pragmatic motorcycle Folk who love these bike.
Johnny is gone for now, you have his bike, they are good trusty bikes and using a step by step approach you will be able to solve many, if not all, problems.
These bikes are one of a kind and I urge you to enjoy this wonderful machine, the spirit in which it was made and not to be too worried about the previous owner.
Enough has been said here of Johnny and his legacy and I do not need to add anything except he was a REAL character and took wonderful shots of his many rides.
The List will help you.
Don't be too concerned.
Step by Step will get you there.
All the best.
Enjoy the Ride
Welcome |

Good news. Bad news.
Good news first. The BMW dealer is the one Johnny recently used, so I have the service records. 6 sets of tires and 3 oil changes in 3 years. He went 16,400 between an oil change and then 19,200 miles between the last oil change.
That is all. Except for a list of items that they have recommended and one note actually says the motorcycle is not road worthy.
The service writer told me that they would list the immediate issues and discuss them with Johnny and he would just say something like "oil only and ride it till it wont move, but make sure you wash it". The standing joke was that he only brought it in for the deep clean they do as part of their oil service special.
They need another day or two to look it over like I should have done last week. I will have a comprehensive list and some photos by the weekend. |

Well I guess it depends on the sort of oil he used, was it Mobil 1 by any chance?
At least it had fresh tyres
Think on the bright side, it didn't sit rusting away in a shed (barn)
The moto brick is the most durable bike yet made IMHO
Show us the pics please Brickzilla.
You will get to know the K bike.
This forum will not let you down.
All the very best mate and

They said he used the least expensive oil and the most expensive tires.
Castrol 20W50 petrolatum oil. Non-synthetic.
This is what happened. I went with my buddy to look at the K11RS. He handed Johnny the keys to his Lotus and took it for a test ride. He said it was fast and smooth and was going to buy it. The next day he was at the Motorcycle Supermall trying on riding pants and got his foot caught on the knee pad and fell and broke his leg in 2 places. He won't be riding this year so I bought the motorcycle from Johnny without riding it on advice from my buddy.
Now I'm in a pickle. The BMW dealer reports that other that the seat, there is not one single component that is right and repairs would be on a time and materials basis with a minimum estimate of $10,000.
A snip it of their report:
1) Handle bars bent.
2) Forks bent.
3) Brake rotors bad.
4) Fluids dirty and worn.
5) Engine seal leaks.
6) Gearbox seal leaks.
7) Final drive seal leaks.
8 ) Oil/Fuel pump seal leaks.
9) Throttle cable stretched.
10) Clutch cable worn.
11) Headlight mounting missing.
12) Wiring bad.
13) Frame bent.
14) Wheel bearings bad.
15) Tires bad.
16) Numerous missing components.
17) Numerous poorly installed after market components.
I Emailed Johnny. He said no refunds and I am getting bad advice. He does not care what the dealer says. He just said to ride it hard and not worry about it.
I'm going to pick it up and decide what to do. I will post up some pictures. I have some soul searching to do now. |

I'm totally flummoxed.
For over forty years, I've been engaged in studying and teaching the critical analysis and evaluation of verbal fictions; at the same time, I developed an academic competency in technical writing.
And after all of that, I don't have a clue about what is going on here in this thread _________________ 1993 K1100LT (Washington)

You were doing good until here mate.
Jig is up.
I cry foul. Until you show pics of the bike (preferably apart or at the BMW dealer) and yourself I am pretty sure you are not who you say you are, and I don't think any member should waste anymore time with you.
No offense, but misrepresentation and wasting good peoples time is low. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006
