All right, Just got off the phone with Jeff W. @ Ztechnik and he has offered us a 10% discount off regular price if we can buy at least 10 screens.

We can contact him individually via email at: jeffw@ztechnik.com and mention www.k11og.org.

He also has offered to let us pick-up (something new) if we want to avoid shipping charges, but then Illinois sales tax applies at 8.75%.

I am in for one.

I'm not sure if the tall one is tall enough for me. I like the Parabellum +4 because that seems perfect for me. It measures just over 17.5" up the middle while the ZT specs for their tall one say it's 16.1" tall.

I do like the look though. I emailed them to see if they have plans to build a taller one. I imagine it wouldn't be that hard since they've already got the basic shape down.

I emailed them about making a taller screen. Response:

Quote:
no, based on the windshield lift mechanism our concern is that our shield, which is wider than stock, would put too much pressure on the windshield bracket mechanism. However, our 16.1" shield when in the full-up position should be more than tall enough for you.

Oh, well. I guess I'm out for now. My screen is all of the way down most of the time. Since I ride half helmet or helmetless it's important that the bugs get pushed up over my head. I always give it an assist if I need to put it up while riding.

If any other tall LT rider orders one I'd be interested in how well you think it works.

Two things:

I always move my screen while riding. I always assumed the manual said not to because it was viewed as a distraction. Has this caused anyone problems?

Drake, I'm 6'0" and never run my stock screen up all the way because it feels like it directs the buffeting at the back of my head. Any solutions to this?

I think it's so as not to stress the motor assembly. My+4 Parabellum moves much better when I assist it. Like I said I don't use it much though. Every once in a while I run it up and down while stationary so it doesn't atrophy. I also lube the rods every year with silicone spray.

I only run with mine up when it's raining and I usually take the RS if it's raining.

Rich - why can't you be number 10? I think we have 5 or so already. I really want a new shield. I talked with Jeff today - he recommended the shorter one for me.

If this shield gets rid of the buffeting, it'll be well worth it.

I raise and lower the shield a fair amount while I'm riding - depending on weather and what ever else is going on - never had any problem. I lube mine every spring with DuPont teflon. On the older bikes with the dash switch, I think they recommend against it because you have to take your hand off the bar.

Hey Jim,

I can be #10 but I need the standard size and according to their website the standard size is coming soon. Did they say they had the standard size available?

Well, we have two threads going on this one...

Looks like the following are in:

mtnrds
2xclr8
Jim
Rich
old guy
ulm 210

Did I miss anyone?

If we can get four more pretty quickly, I'll wait. Otherwise, I'll probably just go ahead and order.

With all the complaints (some of them mine) about the stock shield, I'm surprised more people aren't jumping on this. If you're on the fence about ordering, maybe this will push you off:

"ZTechnik® revolutionizes windscreen performance! The advanced 'V' shape and dimensional contours push the wind vortex out and away from the rider's helmet, resulting in a peaceful, quiet environment. This improvement is notable for the passenger as well. Unique contours around the exterior mounting plates eliminate distortion in the rider's primary field of vision.

State-of-the-art Quantum™ coated polycarbonate gives VStream windshields outstanding clarity and strength characteristics unmatched by any windshield maker worldwide. This exclusive combination of Quantum and polycarbonate is 30X more scratch resistant than acrylic materials, has better UV life, chemical resistance, and optical definition, and has superior crack and impact resistance." from the Ztechnik webpage

If you go to www.k-bikes.com and search Ztechnik wind screens / Vstream, etc. you can read reviews from the guys w/ K12 and K13's. I know they are different bikes, but the design of the shield is the same and their comments are pretty interesting.

Also, Jeff said they are only available in clear as they are DOT stamped.

Further, if there is enough demand for them for the RS, they will tool up.

Ztechnik was the OEM for the original K bike RS/LT and their Polycarbonate material is 20x stronger than the Cee Baileys.

I was wondering about the RS as well, that's a nice looking screen, wish they had one for the RS.

Ordered my screen today and they said it would ship out today. I talked with them about the K11OG discount but nothing was ever setup. I asked that they include my purchase in the sale if the deal ever gets done. Maybe someone can benefit from it.

I think that this is the last purchase on my winter project list. The old debit card sure thinks it should be.

Yeah - I've probably waited long enough, too. I don't think we're going to get 10 people who want a new wind screen...
