When riding, right at 2700rpm I hear something vibrating loud, sounds like metal on metal. It's definitely a tinny sound. Trouble is if I stop and rev it up to see what it is I can't hear it as there is so much other noise going on when it's not pulling the bike along.

Any ideas what it could be? I've felt all around the exhaust etc and can't feel anything loose. Pretty sure it isn't the fairing as it sounds tinnier than fibreglass vibe sound. Getting annoyed!!

WAG - check for a crack(s) in the front fairing bracket ? Or loose/ broken lower brackets?

Check to make sure one of your header bolts hasn't come loose or sheared off, you need to tighten those suckers at every oil change. I'd probably also carefully check the side and centerstand bolts and mounts, footpeg bracket mounts, and bag mounts. All these can come loose.

My guess is header bolts or the heat shield by the shift lever.

heat shield

Doh! How could I forget that? On my K75S it would buzz and rattle, drove me nuts until I figured out what it was. Worked out well, I took the opportunity to give it a nice coat of header black paint Smile

+1 on the heat shield. Had to reform mine a tad then all was good. It wasn't actually hitting the pipe when standing still but would contact when riding.
