Your 85 K100 is a 2V (2 valves per cylinder). K1100, K1 are 4V and possibly some K100 around 91 or 92 not sure of exactly when they switched.

The K100RS went from 8v to 16v in I believe 1990, and was called the K100RS-16v - this coincided with the release of the 16v K1 (I believe the two had the same drivetrain.)
The K100RT was available in the US from 1985 to 1988 and had an 8-valve engine - the 1985 year of the K100 was unique in a bunch of ways, including the rear cowling, fuel tank and battery covers, and a hotter, European cam that apparently wreaked havoc on California's smog rules but punched out like 10% more horsepower. _________________

Cool, thanks. That's all good to know. I'd like to know what the hell it has to do with a light switch, though... are the plugs different, based on engine type? _________________ www.tidewaterforge.com |

Not having the two in front of me, that would be my guess - the K-bikes share a lot of parts but the move from 8v to 16v had some pretty big changes.
You might want to shop around a bit, there are several great bike breakers including kbikeparts.com and re-psycle.com - it helps to contact them even if the part is not listed as frequently they have it on a salvage or parts bike but have not plucked it yet. _________________

Hi, Chris,
The plugs, as the bikes came from the factory, were different. The K1100 bikes had Bosch XR5DC, resistor plugs and the 2-valve K100 (and K75) bikes had Bosch X5DC non-resistor plugs. However, for many tens of thousands of miles I have used resistor plugs in my K75 bikes. I tend to use Autolite 4163 plugs. I used them for tens of thousands of miles in my K1100LT's, too. _________________ Ride Safe,

The difference between the switches for 2V and 4V bikes is the wiring harness connector. For the 2V bikes the connector is white and square. On the 4V bikes it is black and rectangular. The actual switches are the same though. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

You "ain't" seen blasphemy yet- I've been running lowly Champions for the last 2 years. Runs great and the plugs look good when I check them. OMG!!! _________________ John & Cathy
