First up, a big thank you to all who wrote on how to change out fork seals.
After only a year, I had one go this spring on the rought SE WI roads.
So, after a real bad day at work last week Thursday I needed garage therapy. So I dropped the belly pan & blocked up the bike nice & secure. Then I went to it. Pulled it all apart, even used a new spring set I got for about half price from Works Perfomance. The springs that were in the bike, now with 40K on it, are wound with a progessively tighter wind. The ride was not comfy, but almost jarring yet still composed. Maybe nice on a race track, but she don't live there, ya know. The replacement set is two stage. A lower spring that was large enough it did not fit into the inner steel tube like the stocker, but which fit perfectly to the top of the dampner unit.
Then a heavy washer, followed by a short spring with a steel spacer that fit inside of it, topped by another washer, then a PVC preload spacer. Too much fun to compress it out side of the fork and get those keepers in place! Finger pinching free of charge, but good therapy can sometimes hurt a touch so I pressed on and now she's all done. I also put on fork boots as I feel the Traxxion guards do not keep enough junk off the tubes.
Of course I HAD TO clean everything up as I went along and put it all back together, but that's just me.
The first ride had me grinning ear to ear. No more noise form the front end. Road ripples & expansion joints are gone, just a smooth controlled even steady ride, Coupled with the Realm shock in back, I really think this is as good as it get's. Used Bel Ray 10 wt oil in the forks, complete rebuild fill volume on the oil.
So after six hours I still need more therapy. I had a quote for $45.00 to spray the belly pan with truck bed liner. Seemed a bit stiff even as I told them I would sand it ect. No go they say.
So, I got a rattle can full from Walmart, masked part of the lower pan off, I decided NOT to do the entire belly pan, and sanded & painted it with the truck bed liner in a can. When it was dry in the morning I added a pin strip to define the line, then added my " K1100RS " in black reflective which I ordered from " Immortal Graphics " Then the truck bed liner looked kinda of an urban camoflage and I thought I was loosing too much of the shape on those BMW Kidney shaped intakes so I added some chrome door edge guard to it. Looks sweet to me! Got it all done for $30.00 and a little change.
Well holy smokes! I got these Iradium plugs just laying here yet, so I gapped & installed them too. Now I know these have been discussed left & right and after only 90 miles I can't say how long it'll last, but HOLY SMIT!!!
Smoother, feels seat of the pants stonger, pulls like the freight train she is. I'll report back in a month or so but I think the mileage will be up as the fuel guage is still at 7/8 full after that 90 spirited miles. Course maybe I bumped the float when I had the tank off and changed out the clutch cable but who knows? After all, I did need a lot of therapy.
I'd post a picture but can't seem to locate the digital camera. Since I've just had therapy, I'll breath deeply and not stress out instead choosing to dream of roads to ride and sunny days of travel.
Those attending HMIII may be the first K11OG'rs to see it as I'm quite sure tire kickin and bike talk shall be at the very least a small part of the weekend.
So, if you got to the end, thanks for sticking it out and I just can't wait to see you down the road
Travel safe out there and don't forget YOUR therapy!

.

Well my SO forgot the camera again, so these pics are from a BB phone.

Fork boots, painted the hose clamps I used with the same truck bed liner I used on the belly pan. The works two stage spring set up is AMAZING!

Couple shots of the pan. The " K1100RS " is in black reflective. Dependent upon the lighting and angle you can either really see it, or it's barely a shadow.

Flash off...

Flash on....

That's all I got. Sorry about the poor write up but I think this stuff is pretty second nature to any long time bike owners out there. Forks rebuilds & such I mean.
It was more of a ramble than anything else, and it ends my session now.

Best to all!

Yup!

U betcha I ride er!

Was raining this morning on the way to work.

Need to keep up them mad wet road skilz Twisted Evil

Course, I'm no racer X, but I just LOVE how the PR2's let me out accelerate most cars even in the rain.

That WRX never knew what happened. He lit em up at the light change, and I did not miss. Nice controlled launch by me, quick shift, soft roll on the throttle & I be gone.
Also naturally, I know to NOT line up on them big fat painted cross walk lines. Guess the Subu driver ain't got that figured out yet.
